I read “Ways of Seeing” as a teen because Kim Gordon of #SonicYouth mentioned it in an interview. I re-read it as a young adult, and was impressed by how the book complicated the idea of subjectivity in a way that echoed #feminist thought.

Now in my mid-40s, I’m at the age when it’s been about 20+ years since I’ve read certain seminal, formative texts and it feels like a good time to revisit them. Another one I’ve been thinking about is #Assata.

On the 29th of March 1985, Sonic Youth's second studio album, Bad Moon Rising, hit the stores.

Deeply rooted in the DIY ethos of their earlier years, this was the band's first widely available outing outside New York and ground zero for more than a few future fans.

This is my youth. I was 16 when this came out. A friend from school got me into Sonic Youth, Daydream Nation just blew me away. Goo and Dirty are the ones I listened to most I think though. One wish I always had was to own their complete discography. Slowly getting there.
