Donaldson) Aonghas MacNeacail the way we’d go, children of the land, out of the city, on a high summer’s evening, so that we could draw clean breath, there between the haycocks, where we carried so many memories of hay bundles bending our young backs in this scene, where light spreads like a silken veil across the terrain, a taste of sun permeates your thoughts about those days, drawing all pains out of the story, nothing seen but the sway of growth and gather, and that old cart the stooks, in their pale rows, are straight, proud, and ready (so some say) for a reel without motion, to a faint tune (perhaps) from benign breezes, on the long green floor – in the shelter of trees, those ghosts remain unseen, utterly content, in their own stalls

From 23 June 2025, young people aged 19–21 living on #Scottish islands will be eligible for concessionary ferry vouchers for travel to the mainland. The scheme, part of the 2025–26 #transport budget, offers four free single (or two return) trips per year and already supports those aged 16–18 and full-time volunteers up to 25. Covering #Orkney, #Shetland, the Outer #Hebrides, and islands in North #Ayrshire, #Argyll and #Bute, and #Highland Council areas, the expansion builds on the Scottish Government’s Islands Connectivity Plan. It follows the introduction of free inter-island ferry travel for under-22s. Cabinet Secretary for Transport Fiona Hyslop said the move will help young islanders access work, education, and opportunities, while the government continues to explore further transport support for island communities.

Iain Mackintosh & Elliott Boyle of the Friends of William Soutar Society will lead a leisurely walk around Perth to discover William Soutar’s inspirations & celebrate the 127th anniversary of his birth.

The walk, which is suitable for wheelchair users, takes around two hours.

A Home in Space Edwin Morgan Laid-back in orbit, they found their minds. They found their minds were very clean and clear. Clear crystals in swarms outside were their fireflies and larks. Larks they were in lift-off, swallows in soaring. Soaring metal is flight and nest together. Together they must hatch. Hatches let the welders out. Out went the whitesuit riggers with frames as light as air. Air was millions under lock and key. Key-ins had computers wild on Saturday nights. Nights, days, months, years they lived in space. Space shone black in their eyes. Eyes, hands, food-tubes, screens, lenses, keys were one. One night – or day – or month – or year – they all – all gathered at the panel and agreed – agreed to cut communication with – with the earth base – and it must be said they were – were cool and clear as they dismantled the station and – and gave their capsule such power that – that they launched themselves outwards – outwards in an impeccable trajectory, that band – that band of tranquil defiers, not to plant any – any home with roots but to keep a – a voyaging generation voyaging, and as far – as far as there would ever be a home in space – space that needs time and time that needs life.
