Finished #audiobook Out of the Dark by David Weber. This #scifi #book is a mix of apocalyptic, military, and alien invasion scifi with a surprise left turn into classic horror. Heavy on the mil scifi, lots of tropes covered in the protagonists who include an Army veteran prepper and a couple of active duty AF and USMC guys. Long descriptions of weapons and battles I frankly zoned out on. First book in a trilogy, I might do the next one, might not. It's ok. ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ #bookstodon

Just 3 days left in our campaign to raise funds for our short #SciFi #film #InTheAlgorithmWeTrust.

The film is based in a near future dystopian UK where the governments use of AI has gone too far

This Sunday at 9pm Eastern (1am Monday UTC) once again rises #MONSTERDON the weekly monster movie watch party! Come join us as we watch a cheesy monster movie and toot about it!

This week we're watching VAMPIRE CIRCUS (1972) a Hammer horror flick about circus vampires preying on children in 19th century Serbia! Given who made it, we can probably expect lots of arterial spray and maybe some bare boobs.

The flick's free over on Tubi: tubitv.com/movies/100004533/va

Or on YouTube: youtube.com/watch?v=fMbG7lnzccI

Or you can download in advance from archive.org: archive.org/details/vampire-ci

See you there!

#ScribesAndMakers 22 Jul 'something you've created. Tell us the story behind it'

This is the more modern version of the famous poem by John Godfrey Saxe.

In the middle of the book, with accreditation, and featuring in "The Talent Contest".

The almost true true story of the Blind Men and the Elephant.

Rewritten by Scott Rochester.

Performed by Gordon Bennett.

As you might expect, when Ronald McGillvray and I created The Post Mortem Report over three years ago, one of our goals was to inform readers about us and our work as authors but we also like to have fun, something I think comes across nicely in our latest trailer for the show. 🙂

After finishing the top level outline for Grand Human Empire 6, I'm coming back to Rogue Enterprises 3 to do my revision/clean up pass before sending it off to Beta readers.

Editor is wrapping up her work on 'Invasive Species' as well so this week's goal is getting the pre-order set up.

@sundogplanets

Yowza. The heating up of the atmosphere hasn't occurred to them, or did they model it as a vacuum? Besides the issue of breaking havoc onto the whole animal and plant nocturnal wildlife.

(As an aside, there's an Asimov short #scifi about robots managing a convergent beam of light onto planet Earth ...)

#WritersCoffeeClub 22 Do you write your characters’ thoughts, or let their actions speak for themselves? Why?

I definitely write character thoughts. Even when they're the narrator. Sometimes a quick thought can sum up a character's reaction better than even 'the narrative voice' declaring it.

Here's an example. (BTW, if anyone would tackle this differently, and wants to rephrase it without the inserted thought, I'd be curious...)

#WordWeavers day 22: As a writer, do you use the same level of description you prefer to read? If not, do you use more or less?

I use what I prefer - enough to understand the scene/setting/characters, but not so much the reader's imagination has no room to populate things. And dispersed as much as possible; infodumps should be avoided in general. (Sometimes, especially in #SciFi, they can be expected. In which case I'll use them, but I'll try to put a spin on it when possible.)
