This is the time of year I try to get my priorities back in order. Flesh and blood can't inherit the kingdom of God, but they sure can cause a person to wander off the path leading there.
Matthew 25:1-12 CSB
1 "At that time the kingdom of heaven will be like ten virgins who took their lamps and went out to meet the groom.
2 "Five of them were foolish and five were wise.
3 "When the foolish took their lamps, they didn't take oil with them;
4 "but the wise ones took oil in their flasks with their lamps.
5 "When the groom was delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep.
6 "In the middle of the night there was a shout: 'Here's the groom! Come out to meet him.'

The Hebrew word "Yom" means "day." "Teruah" means "a shout or blast of war, alarm or joy." I pray we and our loved ones will hear the shout and lift our heads with joy because our redemption draws near!

Once it's full dark he likes to go for another wander and I'll often find him under a parked car. I hate this. It's dangerous. Sometimes he's willing to come right back in, others he makes me squat down and chivvy him out from under and back inside, but I think at that point he's just fucking with me.

He will - grudgingly - come back inside when it's treat time. Grudgingly because the licking stick is how I bribe him to accept brushing, of which he Does. Not. Approve but with that coat it has to be done. I still end up cutting out mats on a regular basis.

This is the part of his day of which I don't approve. From the wall it's just a couple of hops down to the outside world. He'll hang out there in the twilight and greet his street buddies from before he decided we were his staff. I wish I could persuade him to stay in the garden.
