Good morning. 😴😫☕

3 June 2025

I’ve definitely got a case of morning-head today. First thing I did? Spilled the beans—literally. I went to fill the grinder and ended up scattering coffee beans all over the counter. Probably didn’t get enough sleep last night; I was wilding out into the scandalously late hour of… after ten. Yep, totally out of control—watching a movie. There was a stretch in my 20s when I’d stay out at the clubs until sunrise, five or six nights a week. Monday was my recovery day, and somehow, I still managed to function. I survived it, but barely. Luck definitely did some of the heavy lifting. Eventually, the idea of “responsibility” began to trickle into my brain—slowly, reluctantly, like it wasn’t quite sure it belonged there.

“Character—the willingness to accept responsibility for one’s own life—is the source from which self-respect springs.” — Joan Didion

A quotation from Hannah Arendt

Where all are guilty, no one is; confessions of collective guilt are the best possible safeguard against the discovery of culprits, and the very magnitude of the crime the best excuse for doing nothing.

Hannah Arendt (1906-1975) German-American philosopher, political theorist
Essay (1969-02-27), “Reflections on Violence,” The New York Review of Books

Wear a respirator or good quality face mask. Yes, you can develop Long Covid.
Yes, you are at risk of infecting other people.
Yes, you may host the next new coronavirus variant.
You are not magic, but you have people around you who care about you.
You interact with other people who have others who care about them.

Act like the responsible person you want to believe you are.
Mask up, don a respirator, or pretend you're a secret agent, astronaut, cosmonaut, laboratory scientist, or whatever else.

Reduce your health hazards towards living beings around you.
(Cats and dogs can get covid too.
Filtered air reduces infections for colds, influenza viruses, and other pathogens.)
