Filles du roi: the Founding Mothers of New France via STOR Daily

This was an interesting read for me as I have Quebçois ancestors on my mother’s side. The family name then was Therrian (worker of the land) and when they moved to upstate New York, possibly due to expulsion by the British, like the Acadians, they anglicized the name to Farmer. I have one ancestor I can trace to the mid 1700’s. Perhaps my Quebeçois family found it’s beginning in the Filles du roi. More resarch is now required. – Douglas

On September 22, 1663, thirty-six young women arrived in a French colony on the shores of the St. Lawrence River in a region that we now call eastern Canada. While the men of the colony greeted them eagerly, the women were whisked away by an order of nuns already living in the area.

🇨🇦 🇫🇷 🎶 What place for French-speaking music in the streaming era?

Do the recommendation algorithms of streaming platforms treat #French-speaking music differently? Is there an algorithmic bias against French-speaking, French or #Quebec content? On the contrary, is content produced in the United States or in English favored?

Currently, all translated work is stopped except Cor van de Sande is still making #Quebecois versions of every new comic of mine that he can get his hands on, and it would not be a huge task to replace his lettering on recent Rogues of Clwyd-Rhan pages with my own, but it would leave a big gap in the archives that I'd have to fill later.

Here's his French (QU) translation of Tess Durban: tessdurban-qu.cfw.me

#Montreal based post punk art rockers took a turn more experimental and #psychedelic with their 4th album and I'm 💯 here for it. Absolutely the right vibe for tonight, plus the cover art (illustration of a derpy longhaired cat?). Every song is doing something different, doing it well, and in a good way.

#Stereolab x #deerhunter vibes? Immediate purchase.

⬆️ @cube_drone Yours is the most cool-headed & cogent discussion I've seen from anybody on this topic. Thanks.

You make a detailed case for what could happen if the shoe were on the other foot, and it makes sense, including potential for racism & bigotry.

The piece that's missing is the #Canada and #India have a mutual #extradition treaty. If either is aggrieved (#Khalistan #secessionists operating from #Canadian soil or #Quebecois or #WildRose operating from #Indian soil), there is a process
