#QuoteBoosts
Whereas on platforms with threaded conversations, quotes are usually used in comments within a thread, and on many platforms, such comments could be removed by the thread owner.
Anyone can copy text from anywhere, start a new thread in the Fediverse, copy it in there, mark it as a quote or not, and make fun of the author.
If the author is not fairly mentioned in the thread, he may never find out about it and be able to defend himselve.
I didn't know Hubzilla had been doing quote-posts for so long — very cool.
I get that #quoteposts are often used to dunk on people. To take someone's post and place yours above it to say they are an idiot. That sucks.
But I don't care so much about quoting "posts". I want to share articles, podcast episodes and videos with a comment re why it's awesome. And while we can do that, someday all of those things should also be natively fedi content. And when I do this kind of QP, it should count as a boost. That's what I want. #SocialWeb
Does that make sense? #QuoteBoosts?
For the #Mastodon crowd so anti quote posts. I need research evidence of the supposed toxicity of the feature. I’d like people to read these in good faith:
https://privacy.thenexus.today/black-twitter-quoting-and-white-toxicity-on-mastodon/
https://techpolicy.press/the-whiteness-of-mastodon
I do ask in good faith any research and substantial evidence to backup the claims against quote posts. #Quotetoots #quoteboosts #quoteposts #fediverse #Blackfedi #fedi
The thing I really want from quote boosts/quote posts on Mastodon?
Put the quoted text first, then put the commentary or reply *after it*.
This shouldn't be a weird idea. As the old adage puts it:
Because it reverses the normal order of reading.
> Why is bottom-quoting bad?
Mastodon decided against quote posts so far, so Hubzilla and (streams) should not allow quoting Mastodon posts.
And where are you reading that Mastodon will reinvent the wheel? To me it reads like they are working on Fediverse-wide interoperability for these features.
You will be able to choose whether your posts can be quoted at all.
You will be notified when someone quotes you.
You will be able to withdraw your post from the quoted context at any time.
"There are two primary elements to bringing Quote Posts to Mastodon: user-centric, and technical."
The @MastodonEngineering team shares their thinking process on implementing Quote Posts, a long-requested feature.

Good News: @Gargron just responded to the GitHub thread, and apparently they ARE working on #QuoteBoosts for #Mastodon! Excited to hear this common and highly requested ability is coming down the line!

The Fediverse has quote-posts right now, it can quote-post Mastodon toots with no problems, and no Mastodon switch will change that; CW: long (over 4,500 characters), Fediverse meta, Fediverse beyond Mastodon meta, quote-post meta
Oh and for 4.4:
"our focus for the next release will be on implementing the highly requested features of quote posts, as well as the ability for server operators to subscribe to managed blocklists"
Really can't wait!
Also worth mentioning that quote boosts, which have also recently received funding, will include work on privacy and safety features around them, possibly extending to other areas of the online experience.
