Andy Baker<p>Dating Speleothems and Speleothem&nbsp;Growth</p><p>On Sunday I was invited to give a Science Forum webinar to the Australasian Cave and Karst Management Association. The topic was 'Dating Speleothems and Speleothem Growth'. The recording is now up on the ACKMA website. Although the talk was aimed as cave managers and guides, I hope it will be useful for anyone interested in caves and how they can be dated, as well as educators in the field of landscape evolution, Quaternary Science, stalagmite paleoclimate and caves and karst geomorphology.</p><p><a href="http://andy-baker.org/2024/07/31/dating-speleothems-and-speleothem-growth/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">http://</span><span class="ellipsis">andy-baker.org/2024/07/31/dati</span><span class="invisible">ng-speleothems-and-speleothem-growth/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://aus.social/tags/caves" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>caves</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/karst" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>karst</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/stalagmites" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>stalagmites</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/science" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>science</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/QuaternaryScience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>QuaternaryScience</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/earthscience" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>earthscience</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/geology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geology</span></a> <a href="https://aus.social/tags/geochronology" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>geochronology</span></a></p>
Andy Baker<p>If you are interested in paleoclimate, Quaternary environments, cave science or speleothem science, this pre-print might be of interest</p><p>The global speleothem isotope database SISAL has been updated to version 3. The oxygen and carbon isotope data included in previous versions of the database have been substantially expanded.</p><p>SISALv3, contains speleothem data from 364 sites from across the globe, including 94 Mg/Ca, 83 Sr/Ca, 51 Ba/Ca, 25 U/Ca, 29 P/Ca and 14 Sr-isotope records. The database also has increased spatiotemporal coverage for stable oxygen (831) and carbon (588) isotope records compared to SISALv2. </p><p>Want to read more?
