EFSJ - European Federation for Science Journalism
During the EFSJ Annual General Meeting, held yesterday April 10 2025, a new board was appointed. We would like to thank all old board members, and former President Krijn Soeteman who stated:

This AGM is the final AGM for all of the board members who were elected in 2019 in Lausanne. So, a big hand for all who worked for almost six years on the EFSJ. Mićo, Olga, Senne and I have served their second term which comes to an end with this AGM. Personally it feels weird, as in some way it feels like we started only a few years ago and not almost six.

Of course Covid had a big hand in that. The first big event was the European Conference of Science Journalism in 2022 in Leiden, which was a big success for both the local organisers, the Dutch association VWN and EFSJ. It took more than a year to have the next offline event in Freiburg, made possible by the German association WPK. We held our annual ceremony for the European Awards there. Last year some of us went to ESOF, but our big event was in Hungary, again with the European Awards. And hopefully this year again, most probably in Switzerland, in October. And of course we are looking forward to organizing another European Conference, but that is not for me to call anymore.

Thank you all very much for your trust in us, the group leaving the board now. So I can only hope for more offline events in the near and far future between our associations and by and for science journalists in Europe and elsewhere.

Newly appointed President, Agnès Vernet (in the photo), responds to Krijn as follows:

The previous board faced many challenges, particularly COVID-19. Krijn, Olga, and all the board members succeeded in keeping this young federation of associations active and healthy. Congratulations. Now it is time to grow, to support more projects and opportunities.
adding her personal vision for the future of EFSJ:
The primary goal of the EFSJ is to create a bond between national associations. We need more collaborations, transnational investigations, and reportage. This is what the EFSJ can facilitate.

The new board is formed by the following members:

Agnès Vernet – President
Astrid Viciano – Vice President
Gianluca Dotti – Secretary
Erica Villa – board member
Eva Amsen – board member (new!)
Andrei Mihai – board member (new!)

https://efsj.eu/2025/04/11/efsj-has-a-new-board-agnes-vernet-elected-as-president/

#AGM #president
