It pays very little tax, receives considerable subsidies, employs few people, and is largely foreign-owned.”(Source: Australian Institute (dot) org )</p><p>ABS data clearly shows the extractive industries sector 1) does not contribute significantly to the economy, 2) employs few people, 3) is one of the most subsidised sector in the Australian economy, 4) pays no tax and ridiculously little PRRT, 5) amasses great wealth for very few people, 6) artificially inflate GDP figures, and 7) bleeds profits overseas. <br> <br>Why is it allowed to go on? Because of <a href="https://aus.social/tags/lobbying" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>lobbying</span></a> , <a href="https://aus.social/tags/PoliticalDonations" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PoliticalDonations</span></a> and <a href="https://aus.social/tags/Cronyism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Cronyism</span></a> or jobs for the boys. In other word the sector practices <a href="https://aus.social/tags/StateTheft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>StateTheft</span></a> legally.
