icoon<p>As an excercice on <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plan9</span></a> I am trying to write a basic text editor in C. Sofar I can open a file and read it into a biobuffer, then print it to the console by writing to /dev/cons file. That works fine. Now I am struggling to clear the console before writing, so that I have only the intended text, which I can edit and then save by reading /dev/cons and saving it to the original text file. Not sure if this makes send nor if this is the <a href="https://mastodon.sdf.org/tags/plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>plan9</span></a> way of coding. Any suggestions?</p>

SpookThinking about my coworker's (a guy in his late fifties who had a passing experience with <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.m68k.church/tag/plan9" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Plan9</a> way back in the day) reaction when I told him about <a class="hashtag" href="https://pleroma.m68k.church/tag/9front" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#9front</a>. <br>&gt;Huh, it has to be a mental illness. In a good way, mind you, but still a mental illness.

As to servers/relays: there are a lot of well working alternative stacks -- <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/chatmail" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chatmail</span></a> core even runs with some <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Plan9" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Plan9</span></a> mail server stack apart from the many classic email server implementations. Replacing Rust Core is possible but considerable work. Beating its maturity and cross-platform portability would require a serious effort. Not impossible, though. FWIW most other messenger projects (<a href="https://chaos.social/tags/Signal" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Signal</span></a>, <a href="https://chaos.social/tags/matrix" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>matrix</span></a>, etc.) are trying to move towards Rust.</p>
