Details about American strikes in Yemen that Defense Secretary #Pete #Hegseth shared on a commercial chat app
came from U.S. Central Command through a secure, government system designed for sending classified information,
according to an official and a person familiar with the conversations.

The chats last month on the Signal app contained the times and sequencing for the launches of American fighter jets.
A journalist as well as Mr. Hegseth’s wife, brother and personal lawyer were included in the chats.

"American Leadership PAC"’s
$1 million buy will reach constituents in Alaska, North Carolina, Louisiana, South Dakota, and Utah via text, television, and radio,
urging them to contact their senators to back Hegseth.

The ads will run from Friday, January 10, through next week.
Hegseth is set to meet with the U.S. Senate Committee on Armed Services on Tuesday for a confirmation hearing on his nomination.

“Pete Hegseth is a warrior against wokeness in our military and will make an excellent Defense Secretary,” a spokesman for the group told Breitbart News.

Only days after emerging from a private meeting with #Pete #Hegseth sounding unconvinced about his fitness to lead the Pentagon, Senator #Joni #Ernst,
the first female combat veteran to serve in the Senate and a survivor of sexual assault,
indicated that a second sit-down had allayed her concerns.

And she suggested that a torrent of allegations against Mr. Hegseth that had put his candidacy in jeopardy
— including sexual assault, sexual impropriety in the workplace, public drunkenness and fiscal mismanagement
— might not be disqualifying unless his accusers came forward publicly.

Her shift suggested that Trump’s MAGA base was ready, willing and able to bully Republicans into submitting to his desires.

Trump’s hard-line backers paid for ads in Ms. Ernst’s home state,
questioned her Republican bona fides on social media
and even threatened to launch primary challenges against her in 2026 to push her toward supporting Mr. Hegseth as the nominee.

Some prominent Trump activists, including #Charlie #Kirk
and #Stephen K. #Bannon, the right-wing strategist, pushed to recruit #Kari #Lake,

On Friday, Trump went out of his way to give an attaboy to #Pete #Hegseth
-- just hours after the defense secretary pick scolded reporters who have been hounding him in the U.S. Capitol over accusations of sexual misconduct and drunkenness.

There are few political acts that Trump values more than defiance in the face of media scrutiny.

And Hegseth’s charge on Thursday
—clearly directed at an audience in Mar-a-Lago
—bought him both time and goodwill.

After rampant speculation that he could soon drop his nomination,
there is little expectation of that now.

In fact, Trump’s transition team has settled on two theories for why Hegseth should stay in:
time and magnetism.

Aides believe that the longer Hegseth remains in contention for the post, the higher his chances of confirmation will be, simply because it subjects GOP senators to a sustained pressure campaign from the MAGA base, and because many will have a hard time scuttling him in a public vote.

Those aides also believe that if Hegseth is drawing fire from critics, there will be less attention and heat on Trump’s other controversial nominees like Kash Patel (FBI), Tulsi Gabbard (director of national intelligence), or Robert Kennedy Jr. (HHS).

“Hegseth is a heatshield,” said a senior Trump adviser. “Pete can take the heat, and that’s better for everyone else.”
