Cubs ghost runner scored. Do or die time for the #Padres

Looks like I picked the right time to turn off the Cubs game and go to sleep last night. Went to bed with the Cubs up 4-0; as soon as I turned it off the bullpen came in and blew it. Final score: Padres 10, Cubs 4.
Roup , the starting pitcher for the Giants, gave up 3 runs to the #Phillies in the bottom of the 1st but the Giants game back to score 6 in the top of the 3rd (including a 3 run HR by Fitzgerald & a solo HR by Adames.
This gave Roup time to rest & refocus, which allowed him to find his control to make it thru 5 innings giving up only 1 more run on a solo HR in the bottom of the 5th leaving with the score at 6-4 but then the Giants tacked on 2 more runs in the 7th (2 run HR by Yaz) & the 9th to seal the win at 10-4.
Notably Fitzgerald finally got hot & got 3 legs of the cycle with a HR, triple & double and Doval (who came in to close the game in the bottom of 9th with a 6 run lead) was able to get 3 straight outs on a fly to center & 2Ks!!!!
That puts the Giants record at 12-4.
But still to play are the #Padres (13-3) vs #Cubs (11-7), who just took 2 out of 3 games from the #Dodgers (11-6) who play the Rockies (3-12) tonight.

The Giants came back from being down 6-1 in the top of the 6th to rally to score 4 runs in the bottom of the 6th to make the score 6-5, tie the game at 6-6 on a solo HR by Flores in the bottom of the 8th and win 6-8 on a splash, walk-off HR by Yaz in the bottom of the 10th to avoid being swept by the Reds & to save Verlander again from taking a loss.
Both the #Padres (10-3) & the #Dodgers (10-4) were off today. So, this win puts the Giants at 9-3 & keeps them in 2nd place in the NL West 1/2 game behind the Padres & 1/2 game ahead of the Dodgers. A really tight race so far.
But, after a day off, the Giants have to go on a very difficult 10 game road trip with 3 games vs the Yankees (7-5), 4 vs the Phillies (7-3) & 3 vs the Angels (7-3) before they return home.

Three top notch #padres out of the game with injuries, a very rough day for Cease, and a painful loss to the A’s.

The Giants (8-3) get shut out 1-0 & lose 2 games in a row to the #Reds.
The pitching on both sides in both games was very good but the Reds' pitching was better & Giants haven't been able to do anything with their bats against them.
Only good news is that the #Dodgers (9-4) also lost today & the #Padres (9-2) are currently losing (and will be 9-3 if they do) which means that the Giants will be able to keep pace w/them despite the loss.
Tomorrow's game vs the Reds starts at 12:45pm. It's the last game of the home stand before they travel on the road to #NYC to face the #Yankees, #Philadelphia to face the #Phillies & then #Anaheim to face the #Angels, which will be a long & difficult road trip.
