Is Python causing performance issues with your small embedded machine? The Lua programming language may be a better alternative

This is so cool, thanks to godot-vita project (https://github.com/SonicMastr/godot-vita) I'm able to do gamedev on the PS Vita
@bohwaz @punkfairie @ajsadauskas @JessTheUnstill @tomiahonen That's exactly the problem, cuz #KaiOS nee #FirefoxOS was a good and solid basis not just for #LowEnd-Devices but could've been excellent for a more #secure mobile OS, as it has good potential for #sandboxing and #KISS-principle'd #Apps that are lean and efficient.
But then again when enthusiasts like @fuchsiii and I were shouting "#ShutUpAndTakeMyMoney!" to #Mozilla, they basically refused to sell any #device, and then we get the "#PSvita-Effect":
Along the way, I found some steam curations of games that can be found on the vita. It really helps to get the steam metadata and reviews that I might not get on a Vita-exclusive forum. A lot of the times vita games are recommended by people who have a nostalgia for games that I don't have, so it's cool to be reminded that I can also get titles that I'm more familiar with but never tried: Baba is you, Cuphead, Don't Starve, etc. Games that my friends might recognize and could motivate them to become more interested in abandoned handheld consoles. These are the kind of indie games that work great in the vita format even if it wasn't intended for it. There's a lot of newer small indie games like that I wish I could play too!

I always keep my PS Vita Slim 2000 close by, but I find I don't play it much. I have a bulky carrying case, but don't have a case for the body itself, and sometimes get worried about damaging it despite it being a portable handheld.
I get into phases with picking it up and putting it down again. I have a lot of storage that was expensive as hell purchased early on when I was around 12 years old. However, it's not enough to keep every game I ever come across for the vita on there.
It just occurred to me, it really doesn't hurt to just start keeping a spreadsheet that has a list of these game names. Even though I might not have them on my vita itself, it's easy to download basically any of them through homebrew. That might make it easier for me to remember whether they're worth playing if I end up having to delete them. I also want to be more easy on myself about feeling bad about games that are too hard for me or don't click on the vita, there really is a vast collection out there.

My wind down hobby has been trying to wrangle the performance of my godot game Starscan on PS Vita. It runs really rough, so the gains are pretty visible. I managed to go from 6fps to 18fps on the main star map. That's a huge change in feel.
Most of the performance issues are engine based, though. Godot is NOT meant for this platform.
I've hit the point where it's just a labor of love, because at most like 20 people will ever playbill on that platform if I finish.
Usually I can justify it because performance gains Usually translate to other platforms in some capacity, but some of my design changes are pretty bonkers and enough is specific to this platform that I think the commit merge is going to SUCK!
Still, pretty proud of pulling 3x FPS out of non engine tweaks on an already lean game in one evening!
So #Sony and their #PSVita ads were...something back in the day.
I suppose there's something to be said for a company taking risks, and using actual creativity for their campaigns.
#RetroGaming is much more interesting to me on so many fronts over the staid, regular conservative modern #gaming now. For so many reasons.
Still...gosh this one is weird.
And still tempted to buy a #Playstation Vita. I never have, and I'm still curious over their games library!

I now have a few hacked devices running custom firmware, but the #PsVita was my first and I still love playing on it.
I'll eventually write about the other devices too and the reasons why the stock firmware wasn't enough for me.

I’ve recently become interested in the #Persona fighting and dancing games, which has led to me partaking in #PSVita #emulation for the first time. Yesterday I successfully got #Persona4DancingAllNight running on the Android version of #Vita3K!
Just found my #PSVita charger....
How easy is it in the year 2024 to turn it into an emulator machine?
Asking for a friend who owns all the cartridges... obviously.
@winterschon @antranigv also #YAML is #cringe and the definition of a "#container" is relatively impossible, ranging from servers run under their own usermanes with restrictive permissions up to and including #VirtualMachines...
But where #Linux is spearheading is #driver - #support beyond the bare essentials.
Cuz personally I'd love to see an #OpenBSD-based "High #Security #Desktop" system...
In other news, had a slight scare with my PlayStation TV. It wouldn't let me play some PSP games, and some straight up gave me an error when I tried to start them. I was also told that I needed to re-download my PS1 games, but was unable to from the store.
It seems logging back into PSN and rebooting fixed the issues.
I'm not confident that digital libraries will keep working once Sony finally drops support for the Vita and PS3. Fingers crossed I'm wrong.
It's a pity the Sony PS Vita didn't sell well and struggled to make any real impact.
The OLED display in the original model is beautiful and the 2 analog sticks great for FPS titles. It feels really premium too, but the rival 3DS dominated.
Regardless, plenty of stunning titles to explore and the graphics very impressive for a handheld of the time.
Got a couple hours to chill whilst my bread is proving so chilling out with this gem of a game #psp #psvita #finalfantasy #videogames
