The Enquirer · SW Ohio has had 6 black bear sightings in 10 days. Here's why there has been an uptickBy , The Enquirer

Last week I was standing outside of the #Harlem YMCA awed by the knowledge that Langston Hughes lived there at one point in his life.

So the knowledge that #Cleveland and/or #Ohio has not done a thing to mark, protect, and preserve the Harlem Renaissance writer’s childhood home there is troubling:

“Located on the east side of Cleveland in an area that has been historically Black for generations, this home, which is crucial to understanding Langston Hughes and his creative origins, remains unmarked and vacant as it was then. The longer I stood, instead of soaking up the moment in awe, unending questions tugged at me. Such as: why was there no marker? Would it be in danger of possibly being demolished again? And if the city of Cleveland didn’t care about his legacy then who would?”

ACA Signups · House District Enrollment: Ohio (updated)Originally posted 3/13/25 Over the past couple of months I've compiled a master spreadsheet breaking out enrollment in ACA plans (Qualified Health Plans & Basic Health Plans), Medicaid/CHIP coverage (both traditional & via ACA expansion) and Medicare (both Fee-for-Services & Advantage) at the Congressional District levels. With the pending dire threat to several of these programs (primarily Medicaid & the ACA) from the House Republican Budget Proposal which recently passed, I'm going a step further and am generating pie charts which visualize just how much of every Congressional District's total population is at risk of losing healthcare coverage. USE THE DROP-DOWN MENU ABOVE TO FIND YOUR STATE & DISTRICT. You can find the data sources & methodology explanation links here. UPDATE 4/19/25: Scroll down for high-def printable PDF versions of each district! UPDATE 7/10/25: I've updated the web versions of the graphics with the most up-to-date enrollment data I have access to. The black sections w/the ⚠️ symbol are those most at risk of losing healthcare coverage due to H.R. 1, the "One Big Beautiful Bill Act" (aka the #MAGAMurderBill).

An Ohio judge has blocked enforcement of a state law related to medication abortion for the third time, in a new Hamilton County court decision. The 2021 law at issue in the case, Ohio Senate Bill 260, prohibits telemedicine abortions, and the lawsuit has since been amended by the challengers to include

Ohio lawmakers plan session to override three of DeWine's budget vetoes later this month #Ohio #USPol

The notice specifically references three property tax related vetoes. DeWine struck provisions allowing county budget commissions to reduce voter approved levies, requiring emergency and other levies to be used when calculating the 20-mill floor that is the effective tax rate, and limiting districts’ power to ask for emergency levies.

IMO, and I may be wrong is, the purpose of taking local communities power to raise and control spending, including voter approved levies, is to hurt the most populist communities that are primarily Democratic leaning communities. It's not to lower property taxes.
