Da Alfredo Facchini, memoria storica degli anni Settanta

18 giugno 1973. Autostrada del Sole, direzione sud. Giorgio Almirante, doppiopetto rigato e sguardo da gerarca fuori tempo massimo, rientra da un comizio elettorale. All’altezza di Bologna si ferma al Mottagrill di Cantagallo per la colazione. Non la farà mai.

Bastano pochi istanti: la voce corre tra i tavoli, dai banconi alle cucine. Il capo dei fascisti è nel locale. La reazione è immediata, secca, viscerale. Il personale del grill – cuochi, camerieri, lavapiatti – incrocia le braccia. Sciopero. Nessuno gli porta nemmeno un caffè.

<<Qui non serviamo i fascisti. E non serviremo nessuno finché non se ne vanno.>>

Altri tempi. E’ un’altra Italia. L’antifascismo è a pelle. Non lo devi spiegare. Il fascismo è fascismo, senza sfumature di grigio. L’antifascismo è epidermico, non un hashtag da weekend.

Dell’episodio di Cantagallo si parlò perfino nel processo sulla strage di piazza Fontana. Ne parlò Martino Siciliano, neonazista, collaboratore di giustizia. Verbale del 20 ottobre 1997:

<<Ricordo benissimo l’episodio dell’autogrill. Fu vissuto come un affronto, non solo per l’M.S.I., ma anche per Ordine Nuovo. Zorzi, in particolare, progettò di piazzare un ordigno nei pressi delle bombole del gas per far saltare tutto. Poi fu il partito a intervenire. Una spedizione punitiva guidata da Pietro Cerullo, dirigente giovanile del M.S.I., danneggiò l’autogrill e ci furono scontri con i camerieri.>>

Un’Italia così oggi è impensabile. O forse troppo pensabile, ma sepolta. Oggi si ascolta il presidente del Consiglio e la seconda carica dello Stato rendere omaggio ad Almirante, spacciandolo per uno dei colossi della Prima Repubblica. Ma il diretto interessato fu sempre chiarissimo:

<<Che sono fascista ce l’ho scritto in fronte. Il fascismo sbagliò solo per eccesso di autorità.>>

Fascista, razzista, repubblichino. Fucilatore di partigiani. Questo è stato Giorgio Almirante. Chi lo nega, lo giustifica o lo reinventa, è complice. È fascista.

There are lots of surprises in this story.

Excerpt: But the signatures of several prominent progressive groups were noticeably absent from this so-called "joint unity statement" signed by nearly 50 member organizations. Notable among them were the National Council of Jewish Women, the New Jewish Narrative – a recently formed merger between Americans for Peace Now, the U.S. arm of the veteran Israeli peace movement, and Ameinu, an offshoot of the Israeli Labor Party – and HIAS (originally the Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society), which works with refugees.

Although the Union for Reform Judaism, the congregational arm of the Reform movement, signed the statement, as did other groups affiliated with the Reform movement, the Central Conference of American Rabbis – which is its rabbinical association – did not.
