Good morning Mastodonians!

#WSDOA put out this chart a while back, which shows which #Washington #produce is in season at a given time.

Sharing it here with an eye towards #MealPlanning under #Trump #tariffs, as a helpful #shopping guide.

This info can help you identify which #vegetables are likely grown in #WA, which of those are tasty and priced to move, and therefore which ones you can probably afford to buy.

I'll miss avocados. 🥑

I'm not sure how it got to be the last week of February. For a change, I've spent the entire day at home today – weekends have been wildly busy lately, so I welcomed the quiet.

Got to spend an hour in the garden yesterday evening and it was divine... more of this in my future, I hope, as the weather gets cooler.

Today involved an early morning and lots of kitchen time. Kid2 is experimenting a bit with baking and we had a pack of filo pastry in the freezer that wasn't doing anything, so she made some pastries and a quiche. The apple pastry was a perfect accompaniment to a dandelion root 'coffee' while I wrote the meal plan and shopping list for the next two weeks. Kid2 and Kid3 suggested some different things they would like to eat and we're trying a couple of new noodle recipes. About an hour after I finished the lists, I discovered I'll be going out to dinner twice this week, but I can work on doing the simple meals on those nights and Kid1 and Kid2 can take care of them.

Cleaned up the study this arvo and chatted to a friend on the phone. This evening has involved a patchwork of different use-it-up foods including frying some leftover homemade chips which turned out better than I expected. Now I'm waiting for the kettle to boil and looking forward to ice cream. Work tomorrow. That's OK. Good food and good friends await in between the work hours.

I popped some meat into the oven with spices and tomatoes for a good long-and-low braise. Lazy man's supper – just set it and forget it.

Hope it turns out tasty. It's lamb, so added some dried fruit (raisin, cherry) and cumin, garlic, berbere etc for a bit of a Moroccan feel.
Thinking I might also go and throw in a bit of cinnamon and cardamom now that I think of it.

Maybe we'll have it with some couscous to attain some sort of authenticity.

I'm so sad my favorite recipe storage and meal planning app/website was bought by Samsung and the enshitification is happening so fast.

Mostly I loved being able to save all my recipes from around the web into one place that I could easily browse when meal planning.

Debating saying fuck it to digital and just going back to a binder.

My fellow meal planners and foodies, what do you use?

I was a bit tardy with my meal planning this week but I finally added something for every day. Tomorrow is a bit of a mess, I was trying to round up food items that need to go.

The recipe app that I’m using allows me to create weekly meal plans from my recipe collection and I just plonk in notes in between with whatever comes to mind, only to sometimes make big changes during the week because things get in the way. But in general this system works really well because I manage to add in new things regularly, so that we do not eat the exact same meal too often. I usually go shopping for all the dishes in there twice weekly. If I were to rely on my daily moods for cooking I would never have the right items in the house as the fridge that came with our rented apartment is way too small and for some items I have to go to special supermarkets. 🥴

How do you plan for your meals? Do you decide what to buy when in the supermarket?

Not cooking tonight but here’s what I have on the list this week:
- Mushroom, poblano & grilled corn tostadas w/guac, pico, & creamy jalapeño
- Poppy seed chicken salad stuffed avocados
- Greek cobb salad w/avocado, egg, olives, cucumbers, tomatoes, red onion, chickpeas, bell pepper, & feta.

My birthday was Friday and one of my friends brought me a basket of avocados as a gift. So, I’m cooking with them all week. I love ingredients as gifts! ☺️#cooking #mealplanning #kindahealthy
