MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History April 23, 1968: Students took over the administration buildings at Columbia University, in New York, and shut down the university. They were protesting the Vietnam war. Today, students have are being arrested and deported for occupying parts of campus, in protest of the Israeli war on Gaza, and in support of a free Palestine. Last year, they suspended the daughter of Congressional representative Ilhan Omar, who became homeless, as a result. At the time, the ADL and rightwing Trump supporters Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton were calling for the National Guard to be deployed to college campuses. And rightwing Zionist union leader, Randi Weingarten (of the American Federation of Teachers), who shook hands with admirers of the Ukrainian fascist and antisemite Stepan Bandera in Ukraine in 2022, denounced the Columbia protesters as “antisemites.” And recently, Columbia capitulated to most of Trump’s fascistic demands, in hopes of winning back billions of dollars in funding he had withheld from the university. But Trump just kept demanding more, sending the clear message to other universities that it didn’t matter how much they bent over backwards for him, he’d still fuck with them. Consequently, Harvard and over 200 other universities have pledged to resist Trump.</p><p><a href="https://truthout.org/articles/over-200-higher-education-institutions-pledge-to-resist-trump-attacks/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">truthout.org/articles/over-200</span><span class="invisible">-higher-education-institutions-pledge-to-resist-trump-attacks/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/workingclass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>workingclass</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LaborHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaborHistory</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/columbia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>columbia</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/students" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>students</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/protest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>protest</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/police" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>police</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/nationalguard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nationalguard</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gaza</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/freepalestine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freepalestine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/genocide" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>genocide</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/israel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>israel</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ukraine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukraine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/antisemitism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>antisemitism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/vietnam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vietnam</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/massarrests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>massarrests</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>The Dems answer to Trump's threat to deport 1 million people: Mass arrest drug users, at least that's the plan in liberal San Francisco. Supervisor Matt Dorsey has called for the mass arrest of at least 100 drug users a day. They would use "involuntary holds" to incarcerate people against their will by claiming they are a threat to themselves, or to others; as well as forced drug treatment. The city currently lacks the facilities, or resources, to comply. When asked where they'd get the resources, Dorsey had no coherent response.</p><p>Dorsey was a former propagandist for the SFPD and a recovering drug user, himself. </p><p><a href="https://missionlocal.org/2025/01/supervisor-matt-dorsey-seeks-mass-arrests-mandated-treatment-at-drug-jails/" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">missionlocal.org/2025/01/super</span><span class="invisible">visor-matt-dorsey-seeks-mass-arrests-mandated-treatment-at-drug-jails/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/drugs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>drugs</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/police" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>police</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/prison" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>prison</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/massarrests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>massarrests</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/sanfrancisco" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>sanfrancisco</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/immigration" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>immigration</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/deportation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>deportation</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/trump" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>trump</span></a></p>

MikeDunnAuthor<p>Today in Labor History April 23, 1968: Students took over the administration buildings at Columbia University, in New York, and shut down the university. They were protesting the Vietnam war. Today, as in right now, students have been occupying parts of campus, in protest of the Israeli war on Gaza, and in support of a free Palestine. One of their demands is university divestment from Israeli businesses. Over a hundred students have already been arrested already. Yesterday they ordered all classes to be taught online. Arrested and suspended protesters included the daughter of Congressional representative Ilhan Omar, who claims she is now homeless, as a result. In response to the arrests, dozens more encampments and occupations sprung up on college campuses across the U.S. Yale locked its gates to the public. Police arrested faculty at NYU. Meanwhile, the ADL and rightwing Trump supporters Josh Hawley and Tom Cotton have been calling for the National Guard to be deployed to college campuses. And rightwing Zionist union leader, Randi Weingarten (of the American Federation of Teachers), who shook hands with admirers of the Ukrainian fascist and antisemite Stepan Bandera in Ukraine in 2022, denounced the Columbia protesters as “antisemites.”</p><p><a href="https://twitter.com/i/status/1782508844637114456" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">twitter.com/i/status/178250884</span><span class="invisible">4637114456</span></a></p><p><a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/workingclass" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>workingclass</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/LaborHistory" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>LaborHistory</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/columbia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>columbia</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/students" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>students</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/protest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>protest</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/police" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>police</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/nationalguard" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>nationalguard</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/gaza" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>gaza</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/freepalestine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>freepalestine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/genocide" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>genocide</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/israel" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>israel</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/ukraine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>ukraine</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/antisemitism" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>antisemitism</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/vietnam" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>vietnam</span></a> <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/massarrests" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>massarrests</span></a></p>
