I got an alert on my iPhone about the Supreme Court’s decision and sat quietly at my desk.
“I could legally get married,” I thought to myself, wondering silently if this moment was really as big as it felt.

Prism & Pen · Looking back at Obergefell v. Hodges — 10 Years of Same-Sex MarriageBy Chris Owens

Today would have been the 10th anniversary of my friends Rick and John. Ten years ago, they were waiting for the Obergefell v. Hodges ruling, and when it came down, they jumped at the chance to finally marry that very day.

Rick and I had been friends since elementary school. I know he would have been excited to celebrate their 10th anniversary today... Instead, sadly, John is trying to cover final expenses for the love of his life.

Sharing this in memory of a dear friend who isn't here to celebrate. 💔

10 years of love winning! 🌈✨ On this day in 2015, marriage equality became the law of the land, affirming that love is love—no matter who you are. Today, we celebrate how far we’ve come while recognizing the work still ahead. Happy anniversary to a decade of progress, pride, and the freedom to marry the person you love. 💖

The official result of the marriage equality referendum had just been announced on TV - I had led the Dublin South Central constituency campaign, and months of effort, exhaustion, emotion, and relief erupted from within me

Ireland said Yes
