fakToday was always going to be about managing the heat, but with 3 loo stops in the first half I considered DNFing at Tower Bridge. I opted to continue using a run-walk strategy and only ended up with a 13 minute positive split in the end.<br> <br> Not my fastest, not my slowest, but my last for a while, and I kept myself out of the medical tent (which was the main goal). <br> <br> Definite shades of 2018, but with fewer water stations (and with more mileage between them in the first half) I think some problems could have been avoided. I wait to see what the attrition rate was. The ice was great (where it was available). fakA glorious day, so the railway path was filled with runners, walkers, cyclists, dogs and cats for my final big long run. 16 miles at a smidge under 3:30 marathon pace, with an extra mile split into a marginally slower warm up and cool down.<br> <br> All good, glad of the water fountain between Warmley &amp; Bitton stations for a refill. Doomstrike<p>Beautiful sunny morning. Had a few muscular twinges and aches going out. They are all still there, but nothing got much worse on the run. <br>24 miles done, so my longest run before the marathon (and ever!) fakQuestioning my life choices again this morning. A road half marathon without the benefit of musical distraction (the country roads remained open to traffic), with a late start due to the massive queues for the too-few loos. Already grumpy because I found a crack in my car's windscreen, went off too fast. Until we hit the back of the 20-mile race (which started a mile and a half away, effectively) I was running mostly on my own. I thought I had died a little towards the end, but there's only really one bad mile split in there. <br> <br> Finished 5th lady and 2nd V40 (but got the V40 prize as 1st V40 was second lady). <br> <br> Hamstring now very tight, but didn't explode. fakFirst bike ride of the year (I'm a fair weather cyclist) cycling out to <a href="https://pixelfed.social/discover/tags/parkrun?src=hash" class="u-url hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#parkrun</a> and back (it turns out that having an appropriate amount of air in both tyres makes it considerably easier to cycle). I had forgotten how cycling breaks me for running, so everything hurt on a deliberately easy-paced run ahead of racing tomorrow. Thought I might be coming down with something. Was planning 15 miles and starting to think I should cut short.<br>Realised that there would be bad days, and thought this could happen on marathon day, so I'll just keep stepping it out and see, as nothing was actually sore. <br>It just clicked after a while, pace picked up a little, and I enjoyed it. I kept going for 18 miles then as I was feeling good. 🙂</p>
