Gary @N8DMT<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://astrodon.social/@quantensalat" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>quantensalat</span></a></span> Works fine with 10W on CW (40m and up). Here on FT-8 can work stations as long as RX level is -10 or higher. Upper bands work better than lower ones. Do not use SSB here — but CW is pretty much work anyone you can hear (reasonably above the noise) with the IC-705 cranking at 13.8V &amp; 10 Watts. Am sure the other end of the link is dong the heavy lifting! :radio_base: :radio_tower:<br><a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/MagLoop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagLoop</span></a></p>
Dennis "D.C." Dietrich<p>Question for the hams on here since I'm finding somewhat contradictory information on the Internet: Do magnetic loop antennas work (well enough) indoors on 10m? Can't permanently install an antenna or even span one across the backyard (plus, to make things worse, transmitting from the ground floor).<br><a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/ham" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ham</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/HamRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>HamRadio</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/AmateurRadio" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>AmateurRadio</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/antennas" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>antennas</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/MagLoop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagLoop</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/MagneticLoop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>MagneticLoop</span></a> <a href="https://social.advancedsoftware.engineering/tags/shortwave" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>shortwave</span></a></p>

jeffluszcz<p>Wrote a small utility to help tune your MagLoop quicker. It will read your radio's S Meter using Hamlib and speak the value aloud to you. Listen and Tune for highest S Meter reading even from across the room. Giovanni - ZL2GX<p><span class="h-card" translate="no"><a href="https://astrodon.social/@quantensalat" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@<span>quantensalat</span></a></span> John Potune W6NBC has a series of videos on magloops. In one he makes the point that although aluminium has slightly more resistance than copper, its skin depth is greater (deeper) so the RF differences are less than you might expect. He then uses this info to built successful magloops using aluminium foill (or tape maybe) wrapped over PVC pipe, plus interesting ideas on tuning. MW1CFN<p>Very pleased to find my (GB1MUU) indoors, garage-based <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/magloop" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>magloop</span></a> did marginally better in 24 hour unique WSPR spots than G3JKF's outdoor, three-loop magloop array yesterday, which is the magloop reference antenna anywhere in the world. And that was even when I hadn't become active until 10:10UT, and missed some long path!</p>
