On the left, the identical, repeating email headers imply that each supporter could get a check personally signed by Trump as a result of the "work" that DOGE is doing. People don't even need to open the emails to get a sense that a) DOGE is, in some way, actually "saving" taxpayers lots of money, and b) that money is real and could be sent right back to taxpayers through Trump's personal intervention.On the right is the content of each of those emails, including an urgent "poll" that always ends at midnight "TONIGHT!" regardless of the time zone and regardless of the date the message was sent, inviting people (who often are, in fact, being screwed by Trump's policies) to actively engage by asking for the money they believe they are owed. The question is not even "should the money be returned to taxpayers?" but rather "would you accept the money?"It's not exactly news that politicians have always been scumbags, to a greater or lesser extent, or that Trump specifically is a rapacious, manipulative sociopath. The point here is that MAGA is a cult, and it seems to be able to endure because it exists within a framework that has long been accepted as legitimate. Most of us recognized QAnon for what it was from day one because it was so absurd and so far outside of any acceptable framework. But a high-level celebrity politician bombarding his (often older and not particularly tech-savvy) supporters with promises of "one weird trick" that will make them rich through the intercession of their personal Lord and Savior while vanquishing their Deep State enemies? Sure, man, that sounds reasonable.Anyways, not to beat a dead horse, but if the US is screwed, the reasons are a lot deeper than Trump alone.
