@theregister It can preload all it wants. Even at work I have longe since replaced msoffice with #libreoffice
(Which btw has included the option of preloading since forever, lol)
@Peternimmo LibreOffice is the better Word processor I know (neatly better in many ways than MSOffice Word). I used to train adults on office suite.
A tip or two, you can, if you want, have a similar interface than MsOffice : View > User Interface > Tabbed.
If your are familiar with styles you will love #LibreOffice. They are styles for almost everything in Writer (use the sidebar).
OpenOffice is no longer developped.
@Peternimmo Use #LibreOffice myself as well for church/home use. Obviously a little learning curve with it being a bit different to MS Office but quite superb.
Yesterday evening I created a presentation with #libreoffice Impress.
Ok, it needs some time to learn. But in the end it works as intended.
The most time I spent looking were all there features were hidden.
So! No need to stick to Microsuft feel free to install an try.

Answering questions from users on Ask LibreOffice.

Helping to confirm new bug reports: go to their Bugzilla page and look for new bugs. If you can recreate one, add a comment like “CONFIRMED on Windows 11 and LibreOffice 25.2.3”.

Spreading the word: Tell everyone about LibreOffice on Mastodon, Bluesky or X (Twitter)! Add the #libreoffice hashtag, and at the end of the month you can claim your stickers

Translating the user interface
- 
Contributing source code: The codebase is big, but there are lots of places to get involved with small jobs.
- 
Writing documentation: Whether you want to update the online help or add chapters to the handbooks

Libreoffice already has Calc, which can read and save Excel files as long as there are no macros.

I am in an internal meeting in #Microsoft with the #Word team, and someone said:
"Microsoft recently celebrated 50 years and Word celebrated 40 years. Hard to imagine Microsoft without Word "
I can. I can imagine a world with #wordperfect, and #OpenOffice and #LibreOffice and #StarOffice and so on ... it was a good world with open standards.
I was not brave enough to say it lol. Many people here.

And don't take me wrong, I like #Microsoft, I work here, there are many things good and good people.
But there was also a dark past, and still sometimes dubious decisions and investment.

Ran #libreoffice for the first time in nearly a year, realized I'd opened the wrong file, so I closed it and reopened the right file. Well, it seems that triggered the auto updater because it then proceeded to install and relaunch what felt like every point release of the past year. Not the best experience.
