When #SCOTUS overturned Roe v. Wade, commercial tracking data became an overnight trap for women in distress: clinic websites had Facebook pixels, period apps collected data, Meta gave data to authorities. Women were arrested and sentenced for this.

How long will it be before #surveillancepublisher|s pitch that they have the data needed for loyalty checks? #LexisNexis is already sharing data about Researchers with #databroker like #LiveRamp.

Documented · A Secretive ICE Program Trains Civilians on Firearms and Surveillance, Documents Show By Maurizio Guerrero

The Law360 union, editors at LexisNexis and RELX owned publication Law360, are on a ULP strike. They've been bargaining since November 2022, management has refused a proposal that would give the union control over health insurance, and has illegally laid off unionized workers.

"Experts say the most effective action you can take right now is to freeze your credit files at the three major credit bureaus: #Experian, #Equifax and #TransUnion [ETA: #Innovis, #ChexSystems, and #LexisNexis, too]. That will prevent others from signing up for credit cards or opening other financial accounts in your name."

This is free, but they hide the option on their websites trying to sell you credit monitoring services.

Be adamant. You want to "freeze" your credit. That's the search term. You can also freeze the credit of your under 18 dependents.

The credit can be temporarily unfrozen when you need to use it. The company you're applying for credit with will tell you which of the three they're using to run a credit check and the sites have different ways of temporarily unfreezing.

The US should pass a law to auto-freeze everyone's credit and allow them to opt out if they desire rather than leaving credit unfrozen and requiring people to opt in.

NerdWalletThe 3 Reports You Haven’t Frozen Yet - NerdWalletEquifax, Experian and TransUnion are only three of dozens of consumer reporting agencies. Experts say you should consider freezing some of your other reports, as well as those from the Big Three.

Apparently it is possible to have a #kia not send out mountains of data, or at least what it sent doesn't show on our #LexisNexis reports.

We have a 2020 Kia Niro in the US, but it's never been fully paired with a phone. I'm a rather tech-skeptical #luddite, and have a few android devices, but none with a SIM card. I've used bluetooth to play audiobooks but never more; every time it starts the car shows a message complaining that it's not connected to a device.

I've reviewed the report they provided. Good: there's nothing about my driving habits, not surprising since I've never owned a connected vehicle (don't know if I'll be able to keep up that streak the next time I buy a new car!).
Bad: it's full of bad data. Examples: Addresses listed I've never lived at. Email addresses that aren't mine. Tons and tons and tons of duplicate data.
Nothing bad enough for me to waste my time trying to get them to correct it, but just a huge mess.

After I asked #LexisNexis via their form to tell me what they had on me, & they rejected my request because I didn't provide information they didn't ask for, & their rejection didn't tell me how to submit the information they wanted, & I finally figured out how to do it by jumping through their hoops...
They sent me another letter, on paper, via postal mail, not with the information I asked for, but with a URL that I can type into the browser to view it. Why not an email? Who the fuck knows.

Continued thread

There was an email address in their letter for inquiries. I emailed that address asking how to submit the identity verification documents they suggested. I got an auto-reply containing instructions for how to do that. Why couldn't they have put that information in the letter they sent me?
It's almost likely they're making it hard on purpose for consumers to get their reports. Oh, wait, that's exactly what it is.

They sent me a letter saying they couldn't process my disclosure report request.
They spelled my name wrong in the letter.
They said my request couldn't be processed because I didn't submit identity verification documents, but they didn't ask me for any on the online form.
They told me to go to their web site and resubmit my request online, but I already did that and that's the request they rejected.
