The Black woman-founded school burned down in the #Lahaina fires because the US restricted water to Lahaina, kept lines electrified in high wind, and the US' colonial-capitalist overtourism, destructive agriculture, and climate change caused by US-led profit seeking over people and planet.

Why is prolonged #drought a problem for Maui? In my photo I shared, you can see a large mountain that is covered in invasive grasses that are highly flammable. It was just a year ago that Maui had the devastating series of fires that reduced Lahaina to charred rubble. We are just as vulnerable to another serious #wildfire event as we were in the summer of 2023. Frontline had a fantastic #documentary that covered the #Lahaina fire.
