back when i first joined mastodon, one of the many surprising things i learned was that gopher (and gemini!) had made a return to the public sphere after decades of obscurity.

i grew up with gopher and archie and veronica and many other www-alt protocols before getting hooked on the world wide web. they taught me how to hunt for things, in a time when web search didn't exist yet.

i've spent every day of the past week adding a new feature to kiki that i'm incredibly proud of, after hearing from several folks - namely @tomjennings and @scott, who (like me) are hungry for an information-dense and cruft-free internet

this works by turning your kiki pages into gopherspace pages through some formatting magic and textmunging. so now, you can host your kiki instance on both the www and in gopherspace, simultaneously.

it will be released in an upcoming version of kiki, available soon here: tomo-dashi.itch.io/kiki

#introduction

here goes nothing; CD-Love is my cozy small allowlist-instance to try and explore some aspects of myself

certainly not new to fedi, please spare yourself tutorials on the network.

about me: i'm a... FTM guy i guess. living in the netherlands but don't come from here. for years have been holding on to a simple binary expression due to dysphoria and societal pressures. lately have done musing on things and decided my gender needs a DLC, and that i've been repressing the aspect of my life where i wanted to be an "effeminate man", or other words that are pretty much slurs that i don't want to and won't quote here. sounds harsh but little me didn't know better due to the environment i was raised in.

thus i stopped at the words bigender and androgyne. and at some point, when my body allows me to, i want to crossdress amplifying both my masculine traits and a feminine frame.

for now, that part of me remains solely online, hence also the feminine name and typically masculine pronouns and terms used.

i also do want to set an example that crossdressing is not just a fetish, it shouldn't be seen as only that and that it can be a part of someone's gender identity

outside of the musing, i sometimes draw or play on my 3DS or steam deck, although most of the time i lack the right energy to do so due to being in recovery. feel free to ask me for my pretendo friendcode! maybe we can play smash bros or mario kart.

i'm autistic, and got C-PTSD and probably some PTSD going on. that might explain some of my behaviors.

one day i should get back to making websites. i used to be somewhat active in indie web circles, but withdrew over time for mostly personal reasons.

feel free to ask me about anything regarding my interests or identity, and if you feel like following please read my bio!

Anyone familiar with a lightweight text-wget type tool to pull text-only from http articles? I like to save clippings offline of various web articles for future reference/research (journalism, essays, etc) but my current solution is to: (i) toggle reader view + strip out images (ii) print - save as PDF. Anyone else got a more lightweight way to pull plaintext from web pages? I *imagine* there's some simple tools out there using e.g. python web scraping + parsing? #web #journalism #webtech #indieweb

Blogged about the 2 protests I attended against the #SupremeCourt ruling.

Its about the importance of #protest and the sorts of environments we cultivate at demonstrations. Its about the importance of protest being not just an opportunity for spreading a message: but an opportunity for community, building connections and mutual support.

"Why The Indieweb?
This is the story of the birth of the web, its loss of innocence, its decline, and what we can do to make it a bit less gross. Or if you prefer, this is the video in which I say the expression “barbecue sets” far too many times.

Webbed Briefs

WEBBED BRIEFS are brief videos about the web, its technologies, and how to make the most of them. They’re packed with information, fun times(TM), and actual goats."

Fresh new instance, fresh new #introduction time.

I'm Erin, yet another autistic transgender anarchist from so-called Portland, Oregon. I used to have fancy tech jobs with titles like "Lead Full-Stack Software Engineer" until I burnt out, got laid off, and discovered that the tech industry was done with me. Nowadays I survive on a very part-time gig as a general technologist and some freelance tech work when I can find it. My part-time gig is unionized through the IWW, of which I am a proud member. I've been on fedi under various names and handles since GNU Social was the cool new thing.

My special interests include Cybersecurity, Casio watches, Dungeons & Dragons, Final Fantasy XIV, the Indieweb, Linux, old ThinkPads, XMPP, Yuri Anime and Manga, and stuffed sharks.

I've added an XSLT stylesheet to my articles RSS feed for a better user experience, especially for those who are not familiar with feeds: balintmagyar.com/articles.xml

Hat tip to @reillypascal for raising my awareness to this capability, and to Nathan Clark for a nice intro article natclark.com/tutorials/xslt-st

That was fun! I want to continue tweaking it to make it more consistent with other parts of my site. Eg. friendlier dates, and displaying tags and reading time.
