More pan #Indian bhel style than #Bengali jhaal muri
A lot of muri (puffed rice, mamra) for sure - dry toasted and tossed to refresh (that really fixes), some 'Bombay mix' mixture, cubes boiled potatoes, chopped red onions, chopped green chilies, homemade serrano chili sauce, some chili crisp why not, squirts of hot sauce. Mix, enjoy! 🔥

A few images from yesterdays first #HoloDeck presentation at Prof. Varshneys #lab at the #Indian Institute of #Science (#IISc) in #Bangalore (#India), where people enjoyed 'playing molecules'.

@menziesii Has me thinking about having an appreciation for cookbooks, whether or not I'm able to make the recipes from them. I especially appreciate those that are written as home cook memoirs (as opposed to more sanitized professional chefs). Here are some from the Asian diaspora.

One I got as a gift:
🌶 "Ammu: Indian Home Cooking to Nourish Your Soul" - I chose it after hearing about a different South Indian home cooking book on "The Splendid Table" podcast
bookwyrm.social/book/950066/s/

Ones I gave as a gift:
🥥 "Coconut and Sambal: Recipes from My Indonesian Kitchen" - heard an interview by the Indonesian Australian author on "The Splendid Table Podcast"
bookwyrm.social/book/1390526/s

🍲 "Melting Pot: Stories and Recipes from a Chinese American Daydreamer" - found on Asian Creative network
bookwyrm.social/book/1974137/s

bookwyrm.socialAmmu - BookWyrmA new cookbook from the star of Netflix's Chef's Table and one of the world's most prominent female chefs Heart-warming and full of comforting aromatic Indian flavors: Indian food from home, cooked with heart Ammu is a collection of recipes from Asma Khan’s childhood, her Indian family kitchen. It is a celebration of where she comes from, of home cooking, and the inextricable link between food and love. It is also a chance for Asma to honor her ammu—mother—and to share with us the recipes that made her and rooted her to home. This book is a joyful celebration of memories of food, and its power to heal, restore, and comfort. It includes her ammu's comfort food from childhood, the recipes with which she was taught to cook, celebratory food for special occasions, and slow-cooked recipes passed through the generations of her family. The recipes and the memories she shares all possess something that is universal: food is a way for us to have this conversation about how similar we all are—how it connects us and unites us beyond differing appearances, accents, races and backgrounds. With stunning food and family photos, this cookbook is a must-have for cooks and lovers of Indian food.

I get dozens of #power #energy #electricity #comparison #calls form #indian call centres in Sydney and Melbourne - they won't give up - they want to make me change my power company no matter what so they get a commission - evil #telemarketers #australia - Indians won't comply with Australian laws not to ring so much - they will ring to make money, that is all they care about - brutal marketing technique - this is all because of war in Ukraine pumping up power prices for about last 2 years and government doing nothing but giving subsidies but not curtailing prices - power companies are raking in the profits from government subsidies and high prices

“We should not have to prove our citizenship, […] We are the original people in this country, but we’re in a #scary time right now, and I don’t want any #American #Indian to get lost in the #system. [ICE] ‘lost’ children the last time they did this. They lost little brown children that will never be reunited with their parents. And that is horrible. […]”

"He Served His Country And Voted For “MAGAmoron”. Then He Was Fired."

In the article: "...preferred “MAGAmoron” over... Harris because of primarily one issue: the border." I want to hear about one white guy who lost his job to a #Mexican or his scholarship to an #Indian or his food stamps to a #Black. Why are white guys so afraid?

Hey #Gardening people - we're thinking about ordering some #heirloom tomato plants from the #Chicago #Tomato Man. We are complete novices at this and need some guidance.

- We need to grow in an apartment (dwarf or tabletop) or on our balcony in a south-facing building with lots of sunlight.
- We do a lot of #Indian cooking.
- We don't have a lot of experience with tomatoes.

Here is a link to what is available:

Indian student detained in US for allegedly opposing America’s Israel policy

Some positive news.

I am reading Fact Fullness by Swedish scientist Hans #Roshling.

In it he describes that the world is moving forward but that we always see our past as more positive then it was:

Swedish photographer Lasse #Berg made pictures in Gaon Khera, an #Indian village in 1970, when he returned in 1995, villagers, now with well-dressed children, refused to belief it: "This can't be here. We have never been that poor."

Don't accept where you are and your children will be better off.
