yeah see look at this: `zpool scrub` of a 4TB+ #zfs pool attached to my #macOS workstation via Thunderbolt is done in 33m20s!

*cascade* is the flash pool, *succor* is a mirrored mechanical pool that is mostly used for `zfs rec` deltas for backups of the speedy one, local Arq and restic(1) backups get dumped there too.

everything in #IOW #householdIT is backed up at least once locally and two off-site targets. i rotate around aws s3/b2 at backblaze, and wasabi's s3 service. b2 and wasabi ftw.

@briankrebs bahahaha WOW i get turned away sometimes because they think i am going to attempt to sell them something but a local optometrist office in #iow had a breach (got carpet bombed with targeted phishing to a delimited address only given to them) and when i reported it they said "oh no we haven't heard from patients about this just our vendors" i told them to pass my deets to their IT admins or support team and the owner. twice. 🦗 🦗 🦗

bought $1100 frames elsewhere. didn't want to know?🤷

@M0KHR don't know that a charity shop is the word i would use; it's not a Goodwill or anything. it's a place called Artifacts in Iowa City, IA [#IOW] and they get some really great stuff in there sometimes.

like if i needed a new set of floor standing speakers for my technics amp or something my first stop would be there. they have a pretty posh center channel speaker. old political buttons, slogans, radios; i went in to see if they still had a Navajo they told me about over the phone nope #cb

in #radio news, #IOW still has little to no FM #cb traffic which doesn't surprise me. it sounds a lot better but frs/gmrs sounds better & has much less expense.

there isn't really a #ch6Superbowl on frs/gmrs now that those contesting dipshits are done ruining the service in NY/PA/NJ/WV and everywhere they were IP linking repeaters for no good reason.

so gmrs19 is where i usually look for new people because of the "19 at 9p" on friday nights to help people configure their gear. #amateurradio

randy ii fcc says hi, superbowl is quiet this morning, but #frs is hoppin' with homeachoolers i believe. #cb (am, don't hear much ssb and fm) in #iow this morning. i know the anyone NRC is supposed to be amazing, but the audio filters President uses are really excellent to my ears, anyway #amost11m #amateurradio

My Whistler 1080 upstairs is usually scanning amateur, FRS/GMRS/MURS, and AM CB in addition to some p25 public safety stuff and my #ICEDetector, etc.

but I have the pres randy mkii on the windowsill next to my desk and channel 6 is on fire tonight. there are a bunch of weirdos pushing 400+ watts on AM CB though. i just heard one transmission from NE #SEA and i don't think they were kidding. there are several extremely strong transmissions going on

i usually just hear the same 2-3 people yammering on #CB when i'm here in #IOW, but over the last couple months i've got double as many GMRS/FRS stations and about a dozen new voices on #AM CB.

i don't usually hear FM which is a shame because man it sounds pretty great! but since i don't want to RELY on skip to be heard, maybe i can get away with just running coax and putting a pole up, that Galaxy takes a ton of counter space for my kitchen which doesn't have much to spare.

Built using high- resolution 3D Elevation Program and 3D Hydrography Program data, the 3D National Topography Model (3DNTM) will incorporate other critical landscape information such as landcover, structures, transportation, and geology to inform a comprehensive understanding of the landscape to enable data-driven decisions and science. The 3DNTM aspires to augment today’s airborne-acquired elevation data with data acquired from a variety of platforms including satellite, drone, and potentially others. Hydrography data for lakes, rivers, and reservoirs will be derived from that elevation data to form an integrated representation of the landscape that can be connected with other water features such as wetlands and groundwater.

@johnnydecimal @keenan @robb yeah #iow has a new england-level blanched sky much of winter and my photographer side loathes it.

some of the material i've reviewed on blue light spectrum filters and depression are people accusing Big Optical of causing a surge in depression/seasonal affective disorder diags. my baseline is major depressive disorder since 1999 but i haven't been in danger for about seven years.
