#Ingenuity amazed everyone in late April 2022, when it flew around and captured images of the parachute and backshell that brought #Perseverance and itself to #Mars.
Here, the parachute is seen from orbit through the eyes of #HiRISE, an instrument onboard #NASA's #MRO, launched back in 2005.
The animation spreads over 12 months but lasts only 3 seconds, so the parachute appears flapping.

#PPOD: Absolutely amazing #HiRISE image of #Mars. Polygons form in nature for many different reasons. In this case, it's due to intersecting dune ridges! If this deposit were to become indurated and eroded, we might not be able, from orbit, to tell that they originated as wind-blown dunes and interpret the polygons as evidence for a dried-up lake, for example. Looks like we may need better coverage in imagery and DTMs if the #Perseverance rover carries on with the older plan (cyan line) to explore the area outside Jezero Crater, and reach Una Vallis and beyond.
Colored area has a resolution of 0.25m/px in imagery and 1m in DTM. Monochrome area is 5m/px imagery and 20m DTM.
