In Wyoming they were everywhere.
Forest roads are interesting here. Some are used, like this one. Some are purely for hiking now. Some are completely abandoned.

Before settlers, it was all grassland, no trees. Before humans, it was glacial Lake Missoula.

I went exploring, but before reaching University Peak, I ascended its unnamed, but higher, neighbor with a facility.
It was mild & muggy at the trailhead. Up top, the frigid wind howled & my hands numbed.
It was deserted. No bodies. No screams. Great views.

We’re having mildly hot days with cool nights and no rain. I walk each morning, then spend my days editing. Not very exciting.
All that changes is if I hike, which I try to schedule around posting to the blog & the weekends when people clog the local trails.

When perform my targeted edits on a book, I always begin with the chapters most in need. I’m now through those for Book-4.
I’m 17% of the way. The process is slow, but works.

This is our day this week to inch over 90F (33C), then it’s back down. We’ll reach that this afternoon. Currently, pre sunrise, it’s 60F (15.5C).
Meanwhile, my editing pace has been astonishing, but I need to take a break for a hike soon before I crash.

Hints of autumn. If I hike high enough & pay attention, multiple seasons coexist (like the snow last month).
Like how I coexist in 2 worlds as a writer. Sometimes, I’m reminded of how I’m more familiar with the one I created.

I love hiking when there are clouds.
They change the landscape beneath them with shadows that roam.
I like to roam, which means they’re the kind of shadows I want walking with me.
And leaving the other shadows in my life behind is why I hike.

I live for exploring, someone who becomes a risk taker to make a discovery. Exploring an old ski area wasn’t high risk, but I hiked a long way to get there.

As forecasted, it started out cloudy w/some drizzle. As NOT forecasted, the clouds disappeared. It turned hot with minimal shade.

There were great experiences, & I returned with enough time to edit a chapter.

I’ve been pushing myself relentlessly while editing, but today I take to the trail. It’ll be hot in the late afternoon, which is why I go early.
We’re also, supposedly, to receive rain later in the week. I’ll believe it when I see it.

For as often as we’ve been unusually warm this year, we at least haven’t suffered extreme spikes, which we typically have by now.
More concerning is our years-long drought.
At least I didn’t suffer a creative drought this month, & went on 3 long hikes.

First potato harvest of the year. I only lift what I need, the rest is best 'stored' in the ground.
As in previous years I have grown Kestrel, a second earlies variety. My vegetable garden is no dig.
