@cassebonbon @calmeilles And while you're here: Most of the world decided that it's only worth to vaccinate women.
Quite unsurprisingly it was found that it's not enough as 50% of the population can still spread the #HPV.
So some countries are already making plans to vaccinate also males.
But: Nothing stops you from getting the #vaccine yourself and protecting others. I'm having my second jab in ~2 weeks.

Our study on HPV45, one of ~13 cancer-causing types of #HPV, is out in the International Journal of Cancer.
Compared to most other types, HPV45 disproportionately causes adenocarcinoma—a form of cervical cancer that often lacks easily detectable precursors.
Each HPV type is often treated as a monolith—a single genetic entity with a given risk. But within-type variation can also matter.
Spearheaded by Aimee Koestler of the Lisa Mirabello lab, our study shows that viral genetic variation within HPV45 can influence cancer outcomes.
The A1 sublineage of HPV45, most prevalent in sub-Saharan Africa, was used as a baseline. Compared to A1, precancer/cancer risk is higher for sublineages A2 and B1. The A2 sublineage elevates risk particularly for women of Asian ancestry, among whom it has increased prevalence.
At a finer level, we also identified SNPs in the HPV45 genome that are associated with precancer/cancer risk. One of these, T3556G, occurs in the genome region encoding both E2 and E4; causes amino changes in both; and results in higher stability of E2 than any other possible amino acid at its position.
Please see the study for more details, including the cataloguing of new sublineages and subclades in HPV45 and implications for prognosis.
Huge congratulations to the whole Mirabello lab, and to mentee Aimee Koestler for her first first-author paper on HPV! https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ijc.35464
