I wish that more people would interact with fish through beneficial projects like this, instead of through selfish and torturous practices like fishing.

I feel like we wouldn't see the absurdly poor education on fish that we have today--which leaves many people not even recognising that fish are sentient or capable of feeling pain--if youth were taught and encouraged to engage with aquatic life through non-invasive or altruistic practices.

If the only way youth are taught to interact with fish and other aquatic life is through practices like fishing, then that will probably never change, as fishing relies on normalising a selfish, harmful, and exploitative relationship with fish and wildlife as a whole.

Fish Doorbell: the underwater livestream saving fish in the Netherlands
-----
It's that time of year again – the Fish Doorbell season has begun. For several years now this innovative project in the small Dutch city of Utrecht has been causing a splash. But what exactly is it?

In short, the Fish Doorbell is a system designed to help fish migrate through canals. A camera near Weerdsluis lock streams live footage, allowing the public to spot waiting fish. When enough fish are seen, viewers can press a virtual doorbell, alerting lock operators to open the gate.
