My camera shoots fascists<p>Hey <a href="https://sfba.social/tags/Entomologist" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Entomologist</span></a> types, I just got to my place in the Sonoran Desert and am kind of surprised that there are virtually no insects around the porch light. I expected it to be swarming this time of year. The monsoon has been hit or miss around here so there are patches of greenery but overall the desert is fairly brown. When we came back to California we found a mess of them in the back of a closet chowing down on cardboard and fancy art paper and maybe bookcloth. About 1/4” long, kind of translucent, antlike head, skinny abdomen, not much thorax, possibly vestigial wings? Jason J. Dombroskie<p>My 1.5 y/o daughter has this ritual when she finds a piece of debris. First she picks it up, then carefully tastes it, and if deemed inedible gives it to me. This weekend she did this and when I looked at it with her, I told her it was a scarab beetle. Immediately she leaned in, gave it a kiss, and went back to playing.
