"One fourth of Connecticut is now in a severe drought, according to a new U.S. Drought Monitor report released Thursday morning. Much of Litchfield County, along with parts of Fairfield and Hartford counties, are now rated level two out of four in drought intensity.

"The rest of Connecticut remains in a moderate drought, level one out of four, as the entire state was one week ago.

"Just over 58% of the Northeast is in at least a moderate drought, an increase of nearly 2% compared to last week. Southern New Jersey moved up to extreme drought level (three of four), while northern New Jersey, parts of eastern Pennsylvania, southeastern New York state including most of the New York City area, and western Massachusetts are in a severe drought."
