The drinking water rules were adopted as part of Biden’s efforts to limit public exposure to #PFAS, #hazardous #chemicals linked to range of serious illnesses. The original rule covered 6 common PFAS contaminants, including #PFOA, a known human #carcinogen, & #PFOS, a likely carcinogen.

Data from #EPA show "Drinking water is a major source of PFAS exposure. The sheer number of contaminated sites shows that these chemicals are likely present in most of the U.S. water supply," said David Andrews, deputy director of investigations and a senior scientist at the Environmental Working Group (EWG), a nonprofit advocacy organization, in a recent press release.

#Trump is proposing to cut, by $2.4B, a program that offers low-cost financing for #WaterQuality projects, targeting the largest source of federal funds for #DrinkingWater utilities, #sewage treatment plants & other #infrastructure like #water #pipes.

The program had gotten a major boost under #Biden’s #infrastructure #law. But Trump claims the money was “heavily earmarked by the #Congress for projects that are ultimately not repaid into the program, & bypass states’ interest & planning.”
