And just to add insult to injury, the app said that it was proud to offer a "convenient way to pay for parking".

When I run the world, it will be illegal to offer any real-world service where the only way to access it is through a smartphone.

@feijoatrees My supermarket wouldn't accept my new bank card for an online order without mobile phone verification. I don't use a mobile phone. I couldn't shop in person as I was sick with Covid. Bank and supermarket both tried to blame each other. Real fault lies with both for not pretesting #accessibility of order system or thinking about people who can't, or don't, or won't use a phone.

@EU_Commission
Tariff-free roaming on smartphones should be available worldwide to allow people to access navigation, purchase e-tickets, make payments, etc., which helps reduce paper waste. Unfortunately, public #WiFi tends to be limited. My idea helps reduce #digitalexclusion for people visiting different countries around the world; this is also beneficial to #disabled people.

It's often said that it's 'just' elderly people who experience digital exclusion. Two things here: a/ 'just' implies that's somehow OK; b/ it's not true. Statistics cited in my evidence on digital exclusion to the House of Lords include: 'Only 41% of people in work in the UK have the full set of digital skills needed for work … further, 8% do not have any of the essential workplace digital skills at all' committees.parliament.uk/writt #DigitalExclusion #DigitalSkills

The same people who deride benefit claimants and asylum seekers for being "able to afford a smartphone" also require that access to benefits, job-seeking, advice and services are accessible only online.

The same people who tell you that broadband is not an essential utility impose bandwidth-heavy user interfacing.

The same people who tell you there's no such thing as digital exclusion have never done an impact analysis of digital-only.

@rachelcoldicutt while your comments are true, my experience is different. I've found LinkedIn is improved by following a diverse range of posters.

In Aotearoa New Zealand I follow people interested in #accessibility, #inclusion and indigenous data sovereignty. This includes experts in Māori Data Sovereignty (see link).

I also follow and contribute to debates on #DigitalIdentity, #Privacy and #DigitalExclusion. Not many jokes but still good discussions.
