Was chatting to one of my kids tonight about #BSL…they were encouraging me to practice!
Then they mentioned a Paralympic’s video from 2016 which they like called ‘Yes I can!’. There is a small section where someone signs.
This got us wondering if I hadn’t left it too late to start my Paralympic career?! But then we discovered you can’t enter the Paralympics if you are just #Deaf…but there is a separate #Deaflympics!

‘The report highlights instances of #deaf people receiving particularly poor #NHS care. In one instance, a woman was not provided with an interpreter, which meant she was unaware she had had a miscarriage.
Another example was a patient receiving no food or water during a hospital stay as they could not hear staff offering it to them.’

True Biz by Sara Nović is about growing up as a teenager. The special thing about Nović's book is that she follows deaf teenagers through this difficult stage of their lives. She sensitively sheds light on the challenges that arise in a society that at best ignores you and at worst wants to get rid of you. More than is already the case as a young person.
