The current media system is stacked against us. It’s rigged, exclusive, and hostile to alternatives.

That’s why we need the Open Media Network.

Because without an open, trust-based infrastructure for communication and coordination, we’re just shouting into silos.

Let’s build something different.
Let’s make history — together.

#OMN#4opens#metadata

Why It Matters

If metadata is the new currency, then open metadata is the new commons. Capitalism runs on closed systems — the #OMN runs on shared knowledge and decentralized trust.

This isn’t about perfect tech. It’s about:

Human-scale trust
Community autonomy
Fast, messy, democratic distribution
Real-world resilience

It’s not utopia. It’s compost — and we’ve got the shovels.

My finished #DIY #solderfumeextractor.
The fumes are sucked in and pushed out through the flexible tubing which I hang out of my window.
It's powered by USB-C (12V) and can handily be plugged into my @iFixit #FixHub's second USB-C output as I've integrated a USB-PD trigger board.
The project is made from the packaging my FixHub came in - that's what I call #upcycling ;)

Currently working on a DIY solder fume extractor for my new @iFixit #FixHub soldering station. As a soldering novice I'm actually quite proud of what I've done so far :)

Stay tuned for another post once I've finished the project (currently still waiting on a USB-PD Trigger board tho so I can try powering everything directly from the FixHub's second USB-C port)...

Also, womit fange ich an? 🤔

In going through Monday’s E-mails, I found alerts about disk drives pulling errors in Sherman’s array. I have 2 16 TB drives in order and 2 coming for spares.

It’s usually a good idea to replace these when ZFS begins to detect errors rather that waiting for the to blow.

The array is RAIDZ2 so covered for 2 drives choking.

Usually, the re-silver operation will kill the second drive. So saying prayers.

🌟 Self-Hosting Journey Update! 🌟

After weeks of work, I'm excited to share my self-hosted setup! 🎉 I'm running everything on a Raspberry Pi 500 with Stormux (Arch Linux ARM-based), 8 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SD card (planning to upgrade to SSD or NAS as soon as I can afford it). Here's what I’ve built so far:

🔧 Services in Action:
- Development: Forgejo, Code-Server, Woodpecker CI
- Productivity: Joplin Server, Monica CRM, Homepage dashboard
- Monitoring: Prometheus + Alertmanager, Grafana, Netdata, Uptime Kuma
- Networking: AdGuardHome + Unbound, Tailscale VPN
- Tools: MiniFlux, Linkding, TheLounge
- Management: Portainer, Cockpit, Watchtower

🔒 Security & Access:
- Caddy + Cloudflare Zero Trust/Access for reverse proxy & SSO
- FirewallD + Fail2ban for extra protection

📧 Emails Powered by Zoho ZeptoMail:
All email-capable services (e.g., Forgejo, Joplin) are configured for reliable notifications.

💾 Backups: Using IDrive's 5 TB plan for peace of mind.

This journey has been challenging yet rewarding! 🚀 I'd love to hear your thoughts—especially tips on scaling storage or optimizing performance. Let's chat! 💬
