Ganga<p>Both made. </p><p>🟠 The Chinotto Orange (yes, chinotto, not citron, dumb brain) pickle is made and smells AMAZING. It is a lovely colour - red from the spices and the orange of the peel. Just a small jar as I want to taste test it before I make more.</p><p>🌶️ This is the recipe I use as a guide. I use Ramdev achar spice mix for the middle spices, and mustard oil so don't need so many mustard seeds. Sometimes I add curry leaves, sometimes not. I use more oil than they specify so the pickle keeps longer.</p><p><a href="https://gayathriscookspot.com/2016/01/naarthangai-oorugai-kafir-lime-pickle/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">gayathriscookspot.com/2016/01/</span><span class="invisible">naarthangai-oorugai-kafir-lime-pickle/</span></a></p><p>🐞 The beet and orange kvass is <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/fermenting" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fermenting</span></a> - or will be by tomorrow.</p><p>🧹 I cleaned one shelf in the kitchen, the one that holds all my home-produced powders and mixes. Moved contents in big jars to small jars if they would fit, combined a couple of the last bits of some jars if they were compatible. So they fit better and there is more space (for more powders and mixes??). </p><p>🌶️ On this shelf is also the 2 dabbas of commonly used Indian spices. Larger containers of cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, home dried mixed herbs. Tiny containers of juniper berries, mace peelings, whole nutmeg, allspice etc.</p><p>Aromatic heaven.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/FromTheKitchen" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>FromTheKitchen</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/WhatIAmCooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WhatIAmCooking</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/fermentation" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>fermentation</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/IndianFood" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>IndianFood</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/GrowYourOwn" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrowYourOwn</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Food" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Food</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.au/tags/Vegetarian" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Vegetarian</span></a></p>
woollypigs<p>It was more hike than a run today, most of today's climb was done at the start, boy did that go UP. The whole outing was done in a fantastic forest, I did now and would have as a kid enjoyed this place, need to come back. Had to stop many times to take it in and just feel this glorious wood. But also to navigate as it was a very dense with the path(s) covered in a thick layer of chutney (aka fallen leaves that makes anything below very slippery) be that either sharp limestone rocks, narly tree roots or deep muddy mulch. Which made running impossible since I would like to keep my ankles in working order.</p><p>It is clearly a threchous place as I arrived back to HQ, the mountain rescue were heading up into the mountain and forest, hope it was just a training and nobody was hurt.</p><p>No RAAAD today as I had two podcasts episodes of Never Stray Far to catch up with, it's the Giro (tour de Italy)</p><p><a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/RunningWithDogs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RunningWithDogs</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/TrailRunning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>TrailRunning</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/Woods" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Woods</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/Cycling" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cycling</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/Chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Chutney</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/RunnersOfMastodon" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RunnersOfMastodon</span></a> <a href="https://sudomakecake.com/tags/Running" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Running</span></a></p>

Pete HareWhen I moved back to Australia last year after a decade abroad, I didn’t think the next problem I’d have would be, “What the **** do I do with all these figs”. David Hembrow<p>This afternoon's attempt to preserve produce from our garden resulted in 15 and a half jars of green tomato chutney.<br><a href="https://todon.eu/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/greentomatoes" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>greentomatoes</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/cooking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cooking</span></a> <a href="https://todon.eu/tags/vegan" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vegan</span></a></p>
Tom<p>Made 12 pints, one was a little short but full enough. Took about 4 hours today and 2 hours yesterday.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/canning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>canning</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/growyourown" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>growyourown</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a></p>
Tom<p>3 photos of the progress of cooking the pepper chutney. First just starting to cook, second one an hour in, and the last two hours cooked and into the jars.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/canning" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>canning</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/peppers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>peppers</span></a></p>
Tom<p>The chopped results, the few tomatillo and tomato are not visible.</p><p>This afternoon I'll be peeling apples, chopping for the chutney, and slicing for a crisp 🇺🇸 or crumble 🇬🇧 </p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/peppers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>peppers</span></a></p>
Tom<p>Picked all the jalapeno and all the colored sweet banana, purple bell, and marconi <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/peppers" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>peppers</span></a> today. This is around 10 lbs, or 4.5 kg in the photo. De-seeded and sliced up all but 2 jalapenos and 4 red marconi. More <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/chutney" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>chutney</span></a> to be made.</p><p>Mixed with all the tomatillo that could be found and some green tomatoes that were on dying vines.</p><p>4kg total after a preliminary drain after coming out of the food processor and that's all on salt now with 110 grams of dry chopped onion in the mix.</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/gardening" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>gardening</span></a></p>
