I just picked up a copy of The Chessmaster for the NES for $3 at a retro game store a few days ago. It's about as good of a Chess program as you could hope for on that system. The manual claims it has a database of 150,000 opening positions, which is a remarkable claim since the entirety of the game's code is 160KB, including graphics and logic 🤔. The cartridge comes with an additional 8KB of SRAM, so the whole thing runs in 10KB of RAM. #NES #Chess

So I made a discovery. #Chess has more games on more consoles than #Uno did

While the oldest Uno game I knew about were playable on the (original) #gameboy #PS1 and #segasaturn, Chess games go back as far as atleast the #Nes, #Snes, and #Segagenesis

However, I do atleast need an uno game to be playable on a given console, and not having uno, or some Uno knockoff might determine whether I buy a given console.

For fun I'm gonna look into the history of chess games on game consoles similarly to how I did with Uno games, here: urusai.social/@Rob200/11441341

even if you had an old Atari2600 you can run a game of chess. Chess runs on even more potatoes then Uno. Uno didn't have an Atari 2600 release, nor an Nes or snes release.
