Very enjoyable talk from Ron Vale on The Impact of AlphaFold on Cell Biology.
He showcased this recent preprint where AlphaFold was instrumental in formulating testable hypotheses around how mitochondrial transport works in neurons.
We had some code for image randomisation which ran very slowly in ImageJ.
Pro: easy to use by labbies
Con: very slow, like really slowww
Decided to rewrite the whole thing in python last night. In testing this morning, it seems to be 100 times faster! It uses a different approach so the comparison is not entirely fair, but still #GoMe

A review on "Mitotic Spindle Membranes" by Jon Scholey. A neglected topic! As noted, the field moved towards microtubules and motors, although in the 80s there was burgeoning interest in membranes. It's also cool that Jon wrote this (post-retirement) having not directly worked in this area, rather just having an interest from the sidelines.
