Victoria (K8VSY) (she/her)<p>I wonder, is there a cable modem with an SFP+ port available on the market yet?</p><p>I didn't immediately see anything from a web search...</p><p><a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/CableModem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CableModem</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Internet" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Internet</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/network" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>network</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/networking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>networking</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/ubiquiti" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquiti</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/ubiquity" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubiquity</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Spectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spectrum</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Modems" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Modems</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/LAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>LAN</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/WAN" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WAN</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Cable" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Cable</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.radio/tags/Modem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Modem</span></a></p>
Joe Vilas<p>I wish Spectrum Cable were on here so I could blast their butts. I finally unpacked their suitcase-sized box with a "new, faster" modem today. After taking the shrinkwrap off, I found that mine was pre-broken. 🤬 The box was the size of a suitcase, &amp; looked perfect when FedEx delivered it. It was also mostly empty space. I'm really glad I don't work for them anymore. We also need *more choices* in ISPs. <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/SpectrumCable" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SpectrumCable</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/cableModem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cableModem</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/Spectrum" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Spectrum</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/Charter" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Charter</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/busted" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>busted</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/telcos" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>telcos</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/cable" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cable</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/ISPs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ISPs</span></a> <a href="https://triangletoot.party/tags/tech" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>tech</span></a></p>

Now with <a href="https://mastos.online/tags/DOCSIS4" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DOCSIS4</span></a> we can get 10GBps of degrees and ~7GBps ingress. That same Layer 1 single wire can now care thousands of audio streams, video, data, etc</p>
keen456 keen456<p>Great blog post going into how the author discovered they could reach any Cox account/modem remotely and change settings.<br><a href="https://samcurry.net/hacking-millions-of-modems" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">samcurry.net/hacking-millions-</span><span class="invisible">of-modems</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/vulnerability" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>vulnerability</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/cablemodem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cablemodem</span></a> <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/coxcommunications" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coxcommunications</span></a></p>
Gary Parker<p>So, last Wednesday from 18:00 through to early Saturday morning our <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/virginMedia" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>virginMedia</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/cableModem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cableModem</span></a> <a href="https://mastodonapp.uk/tags/broadband" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>broadband</span></a> was pretty much unusable. 400ms ping times and 80-100% packetloss. All day Saturday it was fine, then crapped out again Sunday morning, at which point I booked an engineer visit for today.</p><p>As soon as that was booked the connection went back to normal and stayed that way 🙄</p><p>Doubtless engineer will turn up, declare No Fault Found and charge us £25 for the privilege</p>
Tim Farley<p>My weekend project - labeling and upgrading all the <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/RG59" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>RG59</span></a> cables and wall plates in our 65 year old house. Ran a brand new, shorter, and more direct cable to our <a href="https://infosec.exchange/tags/CableModem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CableModem</span></a> and the signal is vastly improved as you can see in the second picture. Cenobyte :abunhdowohop:<p>Have an interesting <a href="https://mastodon.thirring.org/tags/networking" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>networking</span></a> problem. Got a new xb87 cable modem. My configuration has the modem in bridge mode. Two separate networks with web servers on each one. Externally everything works. Internally the two networks can't talk to each other via the public ip address.<br>(one is thirring.org, one is tech-tips.ca) This worked fine with the previous modem. <a href="https://mastodon.thirring.org/tags/ISP" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ISP</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.thirring.org/tags/Shaw" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Shaw</span></a> <a href="https://mastodon.thirring.org/tags/cablemodem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>cablemodem</span></a> Anyone ever see anything like this?</p>
