Call me crazy, but I firmly believe that Commands (DTOs) in a #CQRS application are part of the domain.

They are the imperative that is given by the stakeholder.

Yes, you will have infrastructure commands like "clean up some tables", but "sudo make me a sandwich" is business domain.

I took the chance to refactor the sample application of this blog post (https://gaetanopiazzolla.github.io/java/design-patterns/springboot/2025/03/17/cqrs.html) to showcase how I'd structure a #SpringModulith application / module that's supposed to use #CQRS as second-level, technical decomposition approach. If you're in an industry long enough, you'll see the same trends pop up again and again, sometimes just with different names. This post is basically advocating for #CQRS (command query request segregation), a practice that many of us in the #php community were using over 10 years ago, but giving it a new name for Laravel users.

This week saw #Kandddinsky 2024 land in Berlin, and the diversity of topics truly inspired me!

From #sociotechnical to #CQRS, and everything #events to #typography, there was technical, social, and philosophical content on offer. To round this off an open space day (unconference) brought out the grass-roots atmosphere and meant that the community were pushing the state of the art in terms of #software design...

And I've done it! Just submitted my talk for #FyneConf! It is going to contain #Fyne, #DDD, #EventSourcing, #CQRS, and the story of how all that eventually led to a great personal management app. Now fingers crossed the talk gets selected.

After more than a year of intense work with #EventSourcing and #CQRS, other models feel... different... kind of wrong. Why? The gymnastics to make a single storage representation work for all use-cases is just crazy. #SoftwareDevelopment #SoftwareEngineering

Making really good progress with the #CQRS and #EventSourcing based app I'm working on. And what's interesting to see is how technical challenges become easier, and how the focus shifts to the business logic and forces me to solve the hard parts instead of losing time with technicalities.
In a way this turns 20+ years of experience on the head as adding features towards the release was much harder in the past.
Still happy with the investment into this paradigm shift - it's a game changer.

Looks like a busy week!
