I must confess that I've been sitting on this story for over a week because I struggle to discuss the ongoing, Pig Empire-wide embrace of Covid denialism at the state level without repeating myself. The key points in this discussion have not changed much over the past few months; Covid is not over, capitalist state policies pretending it is amount to a form of (accidental at best) eugenics, our own governments are no longer publishing the data that would prove Covid is still a danger to everyone, and they're doing it for rich monsters who are taking the very same precautions to protect *themselves* from Covid, that they are denying to you while insisting capitalist life must go on no matter how many people it disables or kills. The fact that the rich bastards profiting from all this have managed to transform wearing masks into a culture war issue taken up by the same fascist right they're funding, is just the crap-cherry on the shit cake.

The plain and simple truth here is that our leaders and the capitalists that own them have abandoned us to a never-ending pandemic, for profit, while refusing to acknowledge that the situation even exists. They're not going to keep us safe, which unfortunately means that we, everyday people, are forced to do that ourselves.

The US Government Has Abandoned Us to Endless COVID. We Can Do Better.

"Trump’s outrageous argument that if the U.S. collected less data, the picture would be rosier has been made into official policy under the Biden administration: As of May 1, 2024, hospitals are no longer required to report admissions, and most of the other data collection infrastructure on COVID test rates, like local dashboards and easily readable trackers on cases and deaths, has already disappeared.

By mid-July 2024, it was possible for Biden to have an active case of COVID and to claim that he is going home to isolate while simultaneously appearing on video in a group of people unmasked, without major media outlets blinking an eye about this contradiction. At this point in the pandemic, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website is no longer a go-to place for clear COVID information, but instead muddies the difference between COVID and the common cold in its prevention recommendations. As Caroline Hugh, an epidemiologist who volunteers for the Public Health Collective, told Truthout, it is hard to know what’s going on because the “picture has gotten a lot fuzzier and a lot more complicated.”

As I said at the top of this post, I honestly don't have a whole lot to add here. The current state of bipartisan Covid denialism in the Pig Empire is that "trust the science" liberal governments are simply refusing to collect data or provide support, while the reactionary fascist wing of the Covid denial complex continues to push garbage pseudoscientific arguments about "herd immunity," "immunity debt," and the behavior of seasonal viruses that are not Covid, and don't behave like Covid does. Through it all, both sides are trying to pretend that Covid is somehow "like a cold," while the virus continues to mutate in dangerous ways because of our society-wide eugenicist plan to "let er rip" for capitalism. Even now, our governments are releasing guidelines that encourage parents to send Covid-positive children to school in the fall; the situation is quite grim.

Is there any hope? Yes, but only the hope that we ourselves can create by staying informed and taking precautions; which isn't easy when our governments are refusing to publish data and working to make it harder to take those precautions. Fortunately this article does offer some sources that can help, which I guess is why I decided I had to share it in the first place.

"Recommended resources include Noha Aboelata and Roots Community Health’s “people’s health updates” on YouTube; Ground Truths, the newsletter of Eric Topol; The Sick Times, a weekly newsletter focusing on Long COVID; and Adler-Bolton’s podcast, “Death Panel,” which provides regular deep dives and analysis of COVID policy.

Local mask blocs are another good source of information. These local mutual aid groups provide low-cost or free masks to community members (via bulk purchasing), and they share a lot of locally relevant information about COVID (often on Instagram).

Nationally, groups like the People’s CDC, the Public Health Collective and the Pandemic Mitigation Collaborative are synthesizing technical information and sharing it to a wider community with a disability justice lens. Hugh highlighted the importance of reading and combining a variety of information, rather than relying on a single source."

Overall however, I have to concede that the situation is terrible; our leaders have indeed sold us out to capital and our only hope is to keep ourselves safe from Covid as the unacknowledged pandemic continues to rage.

Ok this caught me off guard...

I was having an internet search for "adult tinker toys" and came across this online shop. Ah! Pro tinker toys. Cool. I look around, and it's not what I want - mostly memorabilia.

And then there's the **FAKE MASKS** section.

Ummm, what? This is something people are doing? They're PAYING for a pretend mask?

Just... what?

It appears the official Covid19 policy of Valley Medical Center and UW Medicine now is to pretend it does not exist anymore.

Not a single person at my clinic appointment today was wearing a mask, no one offered to wear one as I was, and I was directed to a retail pharmacy (public, understaffed, not a medical facility) to get a Covid19 shot.

@dibi58 The COVID pandemic revealed all of Trump's blatant incompetence, ignorance & cold-blooded indifference to human life, at a monstrous cost of American lives.
All to not let the deadly Coronavirus & the death toll it caused overshadow his sociopathic hopes for reelection in 2020, hoping to continue to be protected by the DOJ he compromised & corrupted to evade accountability forever.

We remember: Trump dissolved the White House Pandemic Response Team out of spite for President Obama, thus depriving the American public of a very important tool capable of swiftly & competently handling pandemics to save as many lives as possible.

This person who seems to have a lot more people on their side than I do is going up against the #antimask #COVIDdenial #eugenicist policies of Commerce Bank twitter.com/Helenreflects/stat and I really hope they can successfully sue the place for #discrimination and make an example of them so that places like the shitty credit union that discriminated against me and gaslighted me about it will be put on notice. #CovidIsntOver and #Covidinfection is no joke. Being forced to remove your mask, no matter if it's "momentarily", is a risk that nobody should have to take.

X (formerly Twitter)Helen De Cruz on XHere's the sign. In an ongoing public health situation, especially with an uptick in cases, it should be the case that customers can protect themselves if they wish with a mask.

My elderly parents, who live in rural Ireland, tested positive for COVID for the first time on Monday. They tried to book a PCR test today and discovered there are none available, not even in a private hospital. Their self tests haven't been registered anywhere, so when we hear cases are on the rise we are not getting accurate information. Why would they shut down the testing centers. The new variant is highly contagious. #COVID19 #coviddenial

We all live with internalized abelism, racism, sexism etc.

But if we are confronting this within ourselves and working to unlearn that, it is much easier to see how the governments #CovidDenial / #VaxAndRelax campaign is an extension of the state's willingness (and eagerness tbh) to continue to not only push the vulnerable out of society, but abandon them completely.

This alone is the case for wearing a mask, even amid social pressure, even when the state tells you it's okay.

The state has proven time and time again they do not care about our health - they don't even pretend to by providing #HealthCareForAll.

Why would they bother protecting us from #COVID19 ?

One final thought:

There's a lot to unpack but in short - my upbringing has made it VERY difficult for me to trust and be vulnerable with my family (especially my parents) in any capacity.

It took years of working at repairing our relationship and building mutual trust and respect when I became an adult. There's a reason I left my home state at 19 and promised myself I would never move back.

#CovidDenial within my immediate family has taken so much of that work and damaged it. My therapist is helping me process how this is impacting me and how to navigate this new challenge in my relationships because I do believe that if there is any hope of changing my families behavior to be more #CovidCautious - it will take a trusted close person to them (i.e. their kid) to do that.

This doesn't change how much their denial of covid has damaged our relationships though. It is painful and heartbreaking and makes all those old wounds I thought I had healed feel fresh. Based on replies I know I am not alone.

Sending love to all of those dealing with similar. It isn't easy ♡

🧵To this day, I am still somewhat in shock at how much #COVIDDenial within my immediate family has impacted how I interact with them.

Some context: My family all lives back east. My hometown is small and conservative. I've always been the person in my family who is a "rabble rouser" so to speak. I was raised in a catholic conservative household, and although my siblings and I have abandoned both of those things at varying levels much to my parents chagrin, I've always been the most "radical" of us all.

However, when #COVID19 came to the U.S. my family was 100% on board with the science. They masked, they locked down, and they took it very seriously in the beginning. My parents worried for their community members as well as family and friends.
