Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers on this day in 1947.

Elijah Green debuted with the Boston Red Sox on July 21, 1959.

Calculating the time and distance between Ebbets Field and Fenway Park, you will find that MLB desegregated at the pace of an average common snail.

For real.

This is the webpage on Jackie Robinson that was removed and then restored by the Department of Defense. I tried to pick out a snippet to quote but, honestly, it's just ALL good.

This tree was planted 31 years ago as a 3-foot bareroot sapling. My son and I used to play catch beside it. Later, I would throw pop flies over the tree. Now, there's no room for playing catch...

Edit: Corrected date of old photo. It was the year 2000. My son -- 10 years old -- had asked the barber for an NBA haircut (probably a fade, but he got a bowl cut).

On April 15th, 1947 the Brooklyn Dodgers signed #JackieRobinson. The history of Black baseball players is marked by segregation and the establishment of the color line, which excluded them from #MLB until Jackie Robinson. Prior to this, notable players like Moses Fleetwood Walker and his brother Weldy played in the major leagues in the 1880s. But none played in the Majors between 1884 and 1947.
