The #GulfStream system could collapse as soon as 2025, a new study suggests. The shutting down of the vital ocean currents, called the #AtlanticMeridionalOverturningCirculation ( #AMOC ) by scientists, would bring catastrophic #ClimateImpacts.
Amoc was already known to be at its weakest in 1,600 years owing to #GlobalHeating and researchers spotted warning signs of a tipping point in 2021.

Under a different name, there is now more research about this:

"We found the collapse of this system—called the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation—would shift the Earth's climate to a more La Niña-like state. This would mean more flooding rains over eastern #Australia and worse droughts and bushfire seasons over southwest United States."
