There are two projects to port Doom on #AtariST computers. First one runs on standard Atari ST but at the moment it needs accelerated Hatari emulator. Second one needs AtariSTE with STE536 board (Motorola 68030 50MHz + TT RAM): https://youtu.be/RyNfRBr9SKI #atari #retrogames #doom
Remembering the magic of Atari 1040, running Steinberg 24 and using a bw Ferguson portable TV as a monitor. Mine had a 2mb ram upgrade!
I don't even know what happened to it. The boyfriend lent it to some DJ guy and I never saw it again.

I found the note I left myself from just waking up:
Dreamed I was back in the '80s, writing a Gopher/Markdown-like system on the Atari 8-bit, with the line-oriented editor I wrote on TRS-80, not MEDIT. I was explaining heading levels to someone, and drawing ATASCII banner art for h1, inverse for h2, etc.
This wouldn't be too hard to really do (but really, use MEDIT). Atari DOS is fast enough to load pages on demand.

These comparisons of various games on early (pre-NES) consoles are quite interesting. The #atari2600 holds up surprisingly well against the much more powerful machines that came out years later, considering its absurdly low specs.
Trying out some games from the MacPack (Internet Archive) and look what I ran across, a Defender clone called MacLanding.
I wonder if this guy did any more programming for the Mac?
New video! I'm building the Open Source Arcade Stick in the DE-9 version (Commodore, Atari etc) with adjustable auto fire and lit fire buttons.

This is kind of amazing: Boulder Dash for Atari 2600!

I played an enormous amount of Boulder Dash on the Atari 8-bit, and a text-based game Wanderer on the ST.

Arcade puzzle games are often overlooked, so here's "Klax" (1990) from Atari.
Colored blocks roll down a conveyor belt, and you must catch them and drop them in rows, columns, or diagonals. Levels have specific goals, like scoring a certain number of diagonals, or surviving a certain number of blocks.
It's a good game to emulate on mobile, while on a waiting room. Which I guess kind of says why we don't usually think about puzzle games in arcades...
