Looks like tvOS 18.1 beta is available. 18 didn’t bring audio passthrough, and I’m not expecting it in 18.1. I know Apple really wants to control the audio experience and all that, but it’s breaking things, not making it better.

I may have found a solution to a problem that has bedeviled many owners of the #AppleTV4K since Apple released its Sports iOS app. Sometimes, when Apple products work together, the results aren't always optimal. (1/4)

One thing I’ve been noticing on tvOS 18 is there seems to be some new audio processing going on. My Atmos enabled soundbar seems to sound way more dynamic with a lot of content I watch now. Some of it is a little jarring and unexpected. But I’m not exactly put off by it.

Sadly it doesn’t work with TrueHD Atmos content, still. But I’m not sure if this is the fault of Infuse’s handling of these streams to make them work at all. Not to say Infuse is doing anything bad.

I’d be curious if Infuse is playing with tvOS 18 yet. I’d be surprised if they weren’t. Maybe they’re cooking something there. Maybe nothing changes, though. We’ll see.

Unfortunately it appears tvOS 18 does not bring TrueHD Atmos support. It’s not a matter of lack of hardware support. It’s a licensed technology.

So I’ll continue to depend on a sketchy device when I want a better theater experience for now.

OK. I watched Aliens in 4k on iTunes yesterday. The new controversial transfer kind of grew on me as i was watching it. Colors and contrast are better. It is sharper. Overall: I don't regret pre-ordering the Aliens 4k Blu-ray. #film #4k #appletv4k #Aliens

Ok, on another note. My Apple TV 4k(2022) has been black screening and rebooting repeatedly and unpredictably. Last night at 7pm ish it was doing it all the time, this morning it hasn't happened yet.

I did a factory reset and reinstalled the latest update last night, but I had problems even after the restore.
