"Play Store changes coming this month as SCOTUS declines to freeze antitrust remedies" by @arstechnica - US Supreme Court upholds court order on #Google's #Android app store monopolistic practices, allowing apps to use external links including billing systems outside of Google. Changes in 2026 will also require rival app stores to be downloadable in the Play Store. arstechnica.com/gadgets/2025/1 #mobile #apps #business #antitrust #regulation #tech

Ars Technica · Play Store changes coming this month as SCOTUS declines to freeze antitrust remediesBy Ryan Whitwam

Bummed, I just noticed the Space Invaders: World Defense app doesn't really work anymore-- it doesn't connect to the servers or high scores, it errors out when you try and play outside.

Space Invaders: World Defense came out in 2023 and was really cool, it had an AR aspect, you could go outside and see the ships coming down in the real world. I messed around with it some back then and took some photos, but I can't find them. Should've messed around with it more then. I guess they shut it down a while ago, I can't find any info on when. It's also not in the Play store anymore.

You'd think a company like Taito could keep servers running for more than just a couple years 🙄 but I guess not. Reminds me of when I was super bummed when the Puzzle Fighter app was shut down many years ago - that one was fun as hell too.

Well, RIP Space Invaders: World Defense. Here's the intro screen and a screenshot of what you can still do in the app now- it's super limited. I was able to fly around and blast things but no scores were recorded and everything else errored out when trying to contact the servers.

@phildini I use a dedicated #email client that's integrated in the #browser on my desktop - #Vivaldi deals with my 20+ years of accumulated emails in quite a few active and non active accounts with ease, find as you type is faster than I can type, labels are compatible with #thunderbird, and when I click a link I can choose to have it open in a background tab

Where are my fellow Vivaldians to add their voice?

P.S.: #fairemail on #Android

Just found: LuCI Mobile, a #FOSS #Android app for managing your OpenWRT router. This looks to be super nice coming from someone who moved from an eero setup to vanilla OpenWRT on a Flint 2 router. A fluid app experience to manage the basics can be really handy sometimes.

Now I really need to figure out how to set up @tailscale on my router. Embarrassingly, I haven't done so yet. I haven't needed to until now.
