Italy's appetite for wood fuels an Albanian forest crisis.

Albania has lost about 6.5% of its total forest area over the past 20 years.

Research shows that the country's 2016 moratorium on commercial logging has not stopped the deforestation.

In a country where illegality is rampant, a small village, among other villages, has been inducted into UNESCO Heritage. The rulings instruct that nothing should be built or changed prior to getting permission from the state, which can take almost a year.
People with money and the right connections have managed to change this by building near the beach and in the village, building hotels and maisonettes, drilling and digging day by day.
This started 10 years ago and it keeps going on. They destroy nature for money, they destroy the heritage and the beauty of the village, not to mention the beach.

People used to drive to the beach to see the green and blue water, which was beautiful. Now, they drive, but with green, blue, and gray buildings.
People speak, but they can't do anything. The state? Will do nothing but sit and watch.

This is not the only place being destroyed, there are many villages and places with the same fate. This is just the beginning of a problem.
